I run a group on Facebook and am hosting a party for everyone. I have posted about it on the group Wall but would like to create a Facebook Event so that people can RSVP and see who else is planning on joining us. How do I most easily do that?
For jall that Facebook can be complex and baffling, it’s not too bad to accomplish what you seek if you have a Group set up. If you have a Fan page, however, your path is a bit more complicated because, for reasons I don’t really understand, the interfaces on the two is sufficiently different that I can’t just write “how to create a Facebook event” and have it apply to both types of groups.
That’s alright, we have lots of electrons, I can write more than one article, right? 🙂
Turns out, though, that you can also create events for groups that you’re not admin, it’s just – yet again – a slightly different path to get there.
Let’s jump back to a Facebook Group where you are the admin, however, because that’s the easiest. On the left side of the Facebook page itself you should see something like this:
You can see at the bottom what we want: “Create Group Event”. Now let’s say that you don’t see that on your page because it’s a fan page or because you’re not an admin. In that case, look at the tabs across the top:
Doesn’t look like that? Then maybe it looks like this:
In that case, clicking on “Event” opens up an abbreviated Event entry form:
Click on “Add Details” if that’s what you’re seeing and you’ll end up at the large Facebook event entry form (as we will immediately upon clicking “Create Group Event” if you have that link, btw):
From this point you want to enter as much information as you possibly can, including the street address of the venue and the start and end time of the event/party/meeting. I filled the form out in this manner for an event I’m co-hosting :
Looks good? You like the photo, the description and you’ve invited everyone in the group (note the check box in the above. Definitely check it!) and a few more nice folk too? Then click on “Create Event” and here’s what’s created:
That’s it. Simple once you figure out the path to the Facebook event entry form from whatever type of page you’re working with!
