I’ve been using Comcast’s slick Xfinity.tv service for a while but my sister’s been going in and changing all my favorite channels. I really don’t want to watch DisneyXD, that’s totally for l0s3rs. How do I change my password so she can’t mess things up again?
Wait, you speak “l33t” and you don’t know how to change an account password on your Comcast account? Hmmm… are you sure this isn’t some sort of trick question and you’re actually with the Comcast Cares team, testing our staff here at Ask Dave Taylor?
Well, just this once we’ll cut you some slack and answer the question directly, without any pontification or analysis. I mean, hey, we’re just as geeky here at World HQ as you are, we just have fancier desks. 🙂
No, more seriously, to change your Xfinity.tv account you need to actually log in to your Comcast account at Comcast Customer Central.
Done so? Good. Now just look around and figure it out. Done.
No, kidding. I’ll help you out…
First off, log in with your account credentials:
Once you’ve logged in, click on the “Users & Settings” tab and you’ll see this:
Looking a bit closer, you’ll see what you seek in the middle of the screen, under the section heading “Account Settings”:
Click on “Change password/secret question” and you’ll get a surprisingly complex window that’s pretty slick, actually:
Here you can either change your secret question (useful if you forget your password!) or your password, but to change either you’ll need your current password handy. That’s so your sister doesn’t just shut you out entirely if she’s just taking advantage of the persistence of your connection, btw.
At this point it’s worth reminding you of the characteristics of a good password. I strongly encourage you to include upper and lower case letters, at least a digit or two and even some punctuation if you can fit it all into something reasonably mnemonic (because writing down your password is a disaster if you already have problems with people borrowing your account). An easy trick is to take a common phrase and do some basic substitutions, like “nine inch nails” and turn it into 9nailsROCK!
Enter your current password and the new password twice, click “Submit” and, congrats, you’re all done. Now about that l33tspeak…
My XFINITY/Comcast password doesn’t work, so how can I change it if I don’t know it?
Use the ‘forgot password’ link on their site to recover access to your account, Carmen!
