I was at a meeting this afternoon with a colleague when his phone vibrated. He looked and said “sweet. Amazon’s delivered my new camera lens”. How the heck did he get a text message from Amazon about the delivery of his lens?
First off, it’s possible that it was a text message from a spouse or family member saying “Something just came from Amazon. Can I open it?” but as it turns out there is a way that you can turn on delivery notification SMS text messages from Amazon.com so you’ll always know when your own packages arrive.
Personally, I kind of like the surprise of coming home and seeing one or more boxes on the front porch, but if you’re dying for something to arrive — as my son is dying for his new BMX biking helmet to show up! — then I can totally understand your enthusiasm.
This feature is actually one of the many cool things you can enable if you poke around in your “Account Settings” on Amazon, actually. They have so many things going on, I’m surprised that they don’t have “Amazon Labs” where we can be part of beta tests too. 🙂
To enable Text Tracking Alerts, start by clicking on “Your Account” in the top right corner of any Amazon.com page:
Now scroll down and look for “Manage Text Tracking Alerts” after what are some other interesting settings to fiddle with, eh? Let’s stay focused, though!
Click and here’s what you’ll see:
As with all text notification programs, be aware that Amazon’s not going to pay for any charges you incur with an incoming text message, so if you’re a crazy enthused shopper, be aware that you might get a bunch of sms messages and end up paying a few bucks, depending on your cellphone service plan.
Enter your cellphone number, specify your carrier, and click “Sign-Up” and…
You’ve enabled it. That’s all there is to it. Now, go keep the economy moving… 🙂
I haven’t received my order from you guys
I hope you understand that I’m not affiliated with Amazon nor am I involved with their customer service. Go to Amazon.com and click on “help” or “customer service” to get support for your missing order, Sherline.
