I’ve been really getting into some of the newer TV series like No Ordinary Family, Falling Skies and The Amazing Race, and want to add them to my Facebook profile. How do I add new TV favorites — and maybe a new movie or two — to my profile info?
You raise a good point, actually: all of us have a tendency to put a lot of effort into creating our Facebook (or Google Plus, or LinkedIn, or etc) profile, then we promptly forget about it because, heck, we don’t see it, do we? Add to that a constantly changing landscape like film and TV and it’s a recipe for obsolescence!
Fortunately it’s easy on Facebook to update your profile, though I found it surprisingly hard to figure out what was going on when it came to adding favorite TV shows or movies. The problem is that they assume we understand all the subtleties of the FB interface and, well, I was a bit clueless for a minute or two when I got there. But I’ll explain when we get to that screen shot.
To start out, the fastest and easiest way to get to your profile is to click on the ingeniously named “Edit My Profile” on the top left of your Facebook home page:
On the resultant page, look on the left side and you’ll see quite a few categories of profile information you can edit and tweak:
As I’ve highlighted, you want to click on “Arts and Entertainment”. Now, finally, you can see the films, TV shows, music, and books that you’re telling everyone else are your favorites. I’ll zoom in just on film and TV, though:
Here’s where I have to admit I got a bit confused. I wanted to click or double-click on the empty box and have it pop up a window that would ask me what show I wanted to add. That ain’t how it works, however. Instead, what you need to do is click on the small region that says “What TV shows do you like?” and start typing in the name of the show:
Here you can see that I’m adding one of my favorites, The Walking Dead. I also am a fan of Falling Skies, and my absolute favorite this season is Game of Thrones. Some really, really good material coming out, between all the cable channels, the pay stations and major broadcast networks. A good thing.
When your’e done, make sure you click on “Save” at the bottom and – congrats! – you just upgraded your profile to include your latest favorites!
What is strange is that I have the add function for add photos/videos – and friend request/find friends – but not for tv shows or sports teams
Hope you can help.
Just read your article – from 2011 – For the past 2 weeks I cannot add a new tv show or movie – and the instructions you gave my FB does not have – when I click on tv shows there is no add function.
Thanks for any help
It’s easy to get them to see as liked, but I want to add watched. I watch a show every week, but can’t figure out how to put it in the watched section.
Thanks Mr. Taylor! In creating my FB profile, I didn’t realize one had to click on one of the pix in the drop-down menu when posting a favorite in film, music, tv, etc. I’d assumed it was showing that I wasn’t alone in what I liked. Your page saved me some frustration.
