I’m loaning my Camry to a friend for a few months and want to delete all the memory locations in my nav system first. Is there an easy way to do that when I have about 75 locations stored?
Yes, every vehicle that has a navigational system and can store addresses in memory has some way for you to delete them too. I’m more intrigued that you want to remove them all – it’s going to be quite a task to enter them all again. There’s no easy way to copy them all to a USB thumb drive and restore them later, unfortunately. Heck, there’s not even a way to just save them all so you can start with a printout of your previous favorites. I hope you’ve thought through your action: 75 locations is a lot of data entry later, whether you’re using a voice input or tapping on the GPS nav screen.
Still, there are other situations where what you ask makes complete sense. For example, perhaps it’s quite likely that this long term loan of your vehicle will turn into a purchase or, like me, you’re about to sell your Toyota vehicle and just want to wipe all the addresses and memory points from it prior to the new owner taking possession of the car. Or you just really love entering addresses! 🙂
As I said, I’m selling my 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid this week and so I too was faced with the same question because I certainly don’t want it going into new hands with all my friends addresses conveniently punched into the GPS. Here’s how I quickly deleted all of my stored memory addresses. To start, tap on the “Menu” button to get here:
Hopefully you’re at least somewhat familiar with this and the screen on your Toyota Camry looks pretty darn similar, if not identical.
From this point, tap on “My Places” to get to the locations area of the GPS nav system:
Look on the top left and you can see that I have 62 of 106 possible memory points (locations) available, which means I have 44 stored in my own Toyota nav system. Any can be edited (“Edit”) and new ones can be added with the “Register” button, but tap on “Delete” on the top right (and don’t worry about Home because that’ll get deleted as we remove all memory points).
There’s the button you want, on the top right: “Delete All“. Tap on it and the nav system will confirm that’s really what you want to do:
Remember, there’s no changing your mind, no backup for recovery, no way to undelete things. Sure you want to proceed? Then tap on “Yes” and after a moment or two, you’re done. Now the Memory Points screen shows 106/106 available:
Done. And notice that the Home button has changed from “Delete” to “Register” because there are no more location points stored! In fact, try to go to stored locations in the Toyota nav system and you get this message instead:
Which definitely means you’re done. And I hope the car loaner goes well with your friend!
