I’ve started learning more about analytics and data analysis and want to add Google Analytics to all my Web sites. Problem is, I can’t figure out how to add a second site to my account setup. I don’t need to have one account for each Web site I own, do I?
You definitely do not either need or want a separate Google Analytisc account for each of your Web sites. Gosh, I know people who have dozens of sites, that’d be crazy to have that many Google accounts — and you’d need a unique email address for each too, which would end up being both tricky and confusing.
Fortunately Google Analytics supports lots of sites in a single account. It also supports multiple accounts and even sharing the analytics data for a specific account (or site) with others who nonetheless don’t have access to your other analytic data. It may be typically Google complex to work with the interface, but there’s a ton of power under the GA hood.
My setup is interesting because I have a bunch of different sites under my main Analytics account, but also have access to client analytics that they’ve granted so I can help them out with some design and content analysis. Separate story, but you’ll see it sneak in to one of the screen captures, below.
Let me show you the fast way to add a new domain to your account, though, rather than just talk about it.
Log in to your Google Analytics account and you’ll see something like this:
What I think just about everyone forgets is the “Admin” button on the top right. That’s the key to open up the administrative features of Google Analytics, including what we seek in this instance, the ability to add a new Web site to our GA account.
Click on it and it’ll show all your accounts:
You can add another account here if you’re so inclined, but I recommend against it unless you have a clear and pressing need.
You don’t? I didn’t think so. 🙂
Instead, click on the name of the account you want to utilize. For me, it’s “AskDaveTaylor.com”.
Notice the new button smack dab in the middle: “+ New Property (web or app)”.
That’s what you want to use for adding a new Web site to your Google Analytics account. Or an app. Though I haven’t done much with that, personally, so I can’t help out.
For completeness, let’s see what options there are when you do click on the New Property button:
Yeah, we just saw that in the button text, but here you can see more detail about how GA can help with app usage analytics, if you’re an iOS or Android app developer. Slick.
Scroll down a bit and here’s what you’re expecting, site name and URL:
Make the necessary entries, click “Get Tracking ID”, add that code to your pages, and you’re good to go with Google Analytics.
I was really confused before, thanks for great tutorial!
Thank you for this Google analytics post. Up until now I had a few different accounts, while expanding I needed to buckle down making things a bit easier on me.

The screenshots needs to be updated. I was having some trouble finding for that new button. Google somehow move it to a different area. (Under the Admin Tab)
Thanks a million that really helped…Love your style of writing… so down to earth… Gill x
