Good thinking. I know that I have an astonishing number of devices, gadgets and gizmos that I should be selling through Amazon.com or eBay rather than just having them sit, collecting dust on the shelf. I’m a fan of both auction sites, by the way, eBay and Amazon, but find that I buy a lot more used products from the latter. I think Amazon’s more trustworthy, with less scams and scammers, but frankly that could just be my perception. What’s your take, dear reader?
In any case, the first step with Amazon.com is to sign up as a seller. I suggest that you’ll want the individual seller plan but read about the professional seller plan too if you think you might end up selling a lot of things. Start here: Sign up at Amazon.com as a Seller.
Once you’ve verified your account, it’s dead simple to sell a used product of your own. I have a spare Sony lavaliere microphone, so I’ll put that up for sale on the site as a demonstration.
To start, find the product you want to sell in the Amazon catalog. Here’s my match:

Look closely at the image, I’ve circled the key link: Have one to sell? Click on “sell” and you’ll then be able to quickly step through the details, starting with verifying that the product is exactly what you are going to be offering for sale:

Just like any auction or sale, it’s critical that you set proper expectations with the buyer by honestly indicating the condition of the item you’re hoping to sell, as shown:

The mic I have is pristine, so I’ll choose “Used – Like New”. Note you can also add an additional note to explain the condition of the item, always a good idea.
Scroll down once you’ve picked the condition and Amazon will show you the lowest price of a current listing for the product in that particular condition:

In the interest of selling the mic quickly, I’ll undercut the current lowest price by $10, marking it at $169.00
Notice that Amazon fixes the shipping price at $5.49. Unlike eBay auctions, there are no shenanigans with shipping and handling, which is great for the buyer and makes it a lot easier for us sellers.
Next step, decide if you want to offer a higher priced expedited shipping choice:

That’s it. Click “Continue” and Amazon will show a summary of the entire transaction:

Looks good? Click on “Submit your listing” and…

That’s all there is to it. As I said at the beginning, it’s really easy to quickly add a dozen of your most valuable gadgets in the hope of making a few dollars. Give it a shot!
