We’re living in a noisy world. There a millions of blogs, and photos and radio shows and podcasts and websites, and… whew! There’s a lot of stuff out there. So if you’re just starting out, or even if you’ve been doing it for awhile, you probably wonder how you’re going to get noticed.
The bad news is if it was easy, you’d be noticed already. The good news is that there’s never been a greater time in the history of the world, than right now, to effectively get noticed without having to spend millions on advertising.
Social media leads the path here. It comes down to an investment of your time vs. an investment of your money. Which one do you have more of? Time is, usually, the easier to create. Investing your time in social media tools like Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, Meetup.com and many others is a sure-fire path to getting noticed.
But that’s not all that is required. It’s not enough to simply participate in those social networks nowadays. You need to stand out in the crowd, which can be hard to do, sometimes.
Here are a few simple things to think about when attempting to get yourself noticed in a vast sea of competition.
One way to get noticed is to create exceptional, even remarkable, content. There’s simply no better way to get noticed than to absolutely wow people with your brilliance. Create content in any format you wish; Audio, video, text, whatever. Just create content that blows people away and solves their problems.
Another way to get noticed is to look different. If everyone else in your industry niche wears sweater vests, then perhaps it’s time for you to switch to a full suit. Or maybe do something fun like creating a caricature of yourself and using it for your profile images across your brand and social networking channels.
The point is, you need to make yourself different from everyone else.
Now, get to it!
this is good advice. standing out from the crowd is the key but going about doing that well it takes a genius. theres so many different ways and methods tryed and tested you have to come up with some individuality! maybe let your personality come out in your blogs and social sites.
I have a website that just hit the 70000 visitor mark after 6 years. I’m just now beginning to discover the power of asking people to subscribe to a newsletter and social marketing. I’ve also begun blogs that lead to my site. There are so many social networks out there. My site is for teachers. Which social networks are best? I do post on the larger teacher forums and leave my link. I get a lot of traffic from one in particular. I caught your interview over at affilorama which led me to your blog. Thanks for all of the great info.
I’m in agree with that of creating remarkable content. Indeed, it seems to me that it is the only way to stand out in the long run… some work with search engine optimization might also be valuable.
I seriously recommend you check out my previous response on Dave’s blog for some good advice on starting out and getting noticed online.
