I’ve run various groups on Yahoo Groups for a long time, but looking at it today, I realize there are some that are dead. How do you delete groups on Yahoo Groups?
I remember when I used Yahoo Groups for all of the groups I managed too, and I still am a member of about thirty different groups on the system, including a half-dozen that I manage or own.
Like so much in computer land, I imagine that a significant percentage of the groups registered there are dead or obsolete, as you say your group is. Problem is, they don’t appear to ever be purged, and I know that I’ve never received email from Yahoo saying “we notice you haven’t had any activity in your group for a year: is it dead?”
So it’s up to you as the group owner to go in and clean things up.
Here’s how you do that:
First, find the group in your “My Groups” section. Here’s the one I’m going to delete:
Click on the name of the group and you get to a page with lots of information about the latest postings and such, but no obvious way to delete the group itself. On the left side, however, there’s a menu:
Click on “Management” (it’s highlighted above) and you’ll get to a page with lots of options, most notably:
Click on “Delete” and it asks why you want to delete the group:
I really can’t imagine that anyone at Yahoo actually reads these, but you can write as much or little as your heart dictates. Ready to really delete it? Click on the “Confirm” button.
And… click on “Confirm” one more time.
Now, finally, it’s done. It’s gone. Finito!
I am moderator of 2 groups and trying to delete one that is no longer used. As stated above-don’t get a way to delete group. Also, no way to add new people to the one group that is still used. We do get notices if someone posts to it, but can’t add or change address-Is there really a way to do that or are yahoo groups manageable any more. Thank you.
Dave
I have deleted a group but unfortunately I am still getting
Emails from that group. How can I stop that??.
Have you deleted the group, or just resigned from it, Mr. Welch? Sounds like you might be signed up with more than one address? Otherwise, worst case, set up a spam filter and route ’em directly into the trash.
For Dave.
The instructions you provided do not remove groups. There is no menu on the left side of the group’s page.
In the upper right corner on the group’s main page, below the header is a selection called “membership.” Click on that, edit the membership, scroll to the bottom and select “leave group.”
That’s it.

Thanks for the update on the instructions, Gregory! Hard to keep up with UI tweaks on thousands of tutorials.
Excellent Reply – I could do it in one attempt. As of Sep 29, 2013 – Yahoo has re-aligned some menu path, but the above help could be easily used to delete the group that I no longer need
thanks for the info dude..
Ok, but when you delete a group, can you restore it any time later?
HELP HELP, just created and deleted the group & people are waiting to join..
My group could not be found after I edited the name. so I Deleted the group.
Started a new group but it tells me that the address is being used by another group, which is actually the one I deleted.
Does it take some time to recognize the deletion? if so how long?
I can’t get a hold of a Yahoo help desk to have them fix the problem.
Thank You so much for any tips
the Group is “Florida United For Iran” I initially had it FLUNITEDFORIRAN which I deleted & it still shows up as not found !!
Dear Dave,
I live in Spain, and use Yahoo! on my Vista system. My Yahoo!includes Yahoo!en Español as an option. However, although pop up blocker takes care of this nuisance in English,Spanish pop ups are ruining my web browsing !! Is there a way of
blocking these Spanish pop ups without upsetting
my English blockers ?
Yours sincerely,
John Harvey.
Thank you

Thank you for posting this. I wasn’t sure how to delete our group now that we are done with our college class, but now I do.
Thanks again.
MAINLY the thing is that we would like to stop automatic notices coming to us from the AOL calendar to us several times a week. At first we laughed, now it is getting very annoying. I was a co owner and 2 others were moderators. Our old group was called Unbreakables. One word. Any help would be greatly appreciated! You may reply to me or new group.
