I saw you wrote about how to change default font size in Microsoft Edge so I’m hoping you also know how to disable Flash in Edge too? I hate Flash and want to make sure it stays off!
You’re not alone in your lack of enthusiasm for Adobe Flash. In fact, there are plenty of hackers and security experts both who say that it’s one of the easiest ways to sneak onto a computer and cause trouble, so while there are still some sites that require Flash (unfortunately) for most of the Web you can safely disable it and know you’re just a bit safer. And that’s a good thing.
Why is Flash so darn dangerous? Ed Bott over at ZDNet quotes a research report from Symantec from a few years ago that says: “Among the vulnerabilities discovered in 2009, a vulnerability affecting both Adobe Reader and Flash Player was the second most attacked vulnerability. This was also one of four zero-day vulnerabilities affecting Adobe plug-ins during 2009. Two of the vulnerabilities were in the top five attacked vulnerabilities for 2009.”
Yikes. That’s serious. And while the company endeavors to fix it, there are plenty of companies that are still very anti-Flash. And you and I are too! So let’s figure out how to disable it in Microsoft Edge.
To start, click on the “…” button on the top right in Edge:
No surprise, choose Settings from this menu and you’ll see all sorts of interesting settings and configuration options, including my favorite, the light or dark UI theme:
Scroll down, down, down until you get near the bottom, however, and you’ll see an Advanced Settings option.
Click on it, scroll down again, and you’ll find this:
There ya go! Simply disable Use Adobe Flash Player and you’re done.
*phew*
That wasn’t too bad.
