Video Review: Dell XPS 12 2-in-1 laptop/tablet hybrid

May 6, 2016 / Dave Taylor / YouTube Video Reviews / No Comments

I know, you can’t decide whether you want a fancy tablet or a solid little laptop that will let you type and work on your projects quickly and efficiently. After years of having both, my experience is that tablets are better as consumption devices, while laptops and desktop systems are at their best when being used as creation devices. Your mileage may vary, of course, but if you’re watching a movie on an airplane flight, well, there’s no need for that keyboard is there?

Enter the hybrid, a laptop that essentially lets you pop off the screen and use it as a tablet, but includes a solid, “real” keyboard with actual keys and all the functionality of a laptop. One of the very best entrants in this field is the new Dell XPS 12, built around the success of its earlier XPS 13, but this time with a twist: it’s a 2-in-1 hybrid. Even better, Dell offers two different keyboards and styles of hybrid laptop, one that’s a more traditional (read “deeper keystroke”) keyboard and one that’s a slimmer design more akin to the popular Microsoft Surface Pro hybrid.

But heck, you don’t want to read about it. You want to see it in action. So here, my video review of the splendid Dell XPS 12, showing off both the Slim and the Premier keyboard, along with a number of other peripherals:
