I’m not at all a fan of iCloud and Apple services, but I love my iPhone. My question: Can I back up all my iPhone photos and pictures onto OneDrive easily?
There are now more cloud services than you can shake a stick at, and just about all of them offer a free photo backup service. From Amazon’s Cloud Services to DropBox, if a company has data storage on the Internet, they likely have a way you can automatically sync your Photo Roll or photo album with your cloud storage and thence with other computers you own, whether they’re Android tablets, Windows laptops or Mac desktop systems.
On the Mac side, iCloud definitely makes it easy and is a popular choice for people, but you’re not the first person to bring up the issue of Apple Software and I understand your concerns. Why Microsoft OneDrive is better when they’re very similar corporations is another story, but perhaps you can share your perspective in the comments below this article?
The important thing is that, yes, you can set this up really easily. To start, download a copy of Microsoft OneDrive for iOS and sign in to your existing OneDrive account (or set one up as needed).
Here’s the main screen of OneDrive once you have it set up and have a few files and folders backed up:
Tap on “Photos” along the bottom and you really can’t miss its invitation to set up photo sync:
Why yes, I believe I will set up Camera Upload and “automatically upload photos” by tapping on “Turn on”.
One more tiny step: approve OneDrive accessing your photos:
That’s it. Done. Wasn’t that crazy easy?
It might, however, take a few minutes to sync the first time. As you can see, I have 284 photos remaining to upload:
Oh, okay, there’s another way you could have done it too.
Tap on the three horizontal lines on the top left of the OneDrive screen:
Now tap on the gear icon and you’ll access all your Microsoft OneDrive settings in the iOS 9 / iPhone app:
That’s all there is to it. Either way, set things up, then let it whir along for a while, uploading all your photos.
Easy and efficient. Thanks, Microsoft!
