How do I set up Google “call phone” in Gmail?

I’ve been reading about Google introducing a dial out to regular phone service for Gmail users and I’m a bit puzzled. I have been on Google Gmail for years, but don’t see any sort of phone dial out capability. Am I not eligible?

Verify/Confirm a forwarding email address in Gmail?

I’m trying to set up a selective Gmail filter so that mail sent from a specific mailing list is also forwarded along to a secondary address, but Gmail says I need to verify my other “forwarding” email address. Help!?

Can Google Maps figure out my current location?

I love the fact that when I look at maps on my smartphone (a Droid X) it automatically centers to my current location. That’s super useful to me. Is there an equivalent mechanism that works for laptops so that I can click a button and have a map of my current location appear? I prefer Google Maps, if that makes a difference…

How do I change the default search engine in Internet Explorer IE8?

On two separate computers, I have tried to change my Search Provider on Internet Explorer 7 by (1) chosing the option on required settings page, (2) right clicking on the search icon to change/add defalt search provider, and (3) using the TEST option. Each time, I get a message at the bottom of the page that says “(!) Error on Page”. Please help. I HATE Bing!

Review: Gyrotate for the Apple iPhone

gyrotate iconI’ll admit it, I’m a fairly hardcore casual gamer. Wait, is that an oxymoron? Maybe. Anyway, I find that I often fill very short time periods during the day with a casual puzzle game on my iPhone. Nothing where I’m caught up for 20 minutes or longer, but literally just a few minutes at a time.
I’ve gone through – and finished or burned out on – a number of games in this category, notably Peggle [iTunes link] and Plants vs. Zombies [iTunes link], but a new game has hit my phone and, well, I’m very caught up in its play right now. The game is yet another variation on the popular puzzle matching style of Bejeweled [iTunes link], but somehow Gyrotate is way more fun and interesting…
Oh, and it’s free. 🙂

Facebook Places and privacy: What you need to tweak

I’m a big fan of geolocation apps and have been using Foursquare almost since it first arrived on the scene. I like knowing where my friends are and having accidental, synergistic meetings with new friends based on my willingness to share my location information. Facebook, however, is a world where I share my status updates with over 1,300 people and I don’t really want all of them to know where I am most of the time. If I did, I’d include it in a status update!
That’s why when Facebook introduced Facebook Places, I was a bit leery. Worse, not only do they now have check-ins, but they’ll show people who are checked in to your current venue even if you’re not friends, and will let other people check you in if they’re in the same place.
Disaster. But fixable…

Can I subscribe to a Meetup.com group calendar in iCal?

I get so much email that I find that sometimes I miss events from my favorite Meetup group. Is there some way to actually just import the calendar events into my iCal calendar? Or, better, subscribe to the group’s calendar so that it’s always up-to-date? Thanks!

Can I delete apps from my iPod Touch but restore them later?

Our son traveled to NYC with my iPod Touch. I downloaded several apps for him. I’d like to delete them from the iPod for now, but maybe put them back on later since I paid for them. I’d also like to delete kids’ programs, then put back on again when I see grandchildren. Is this possible? I’m thinking not possible, because when I downloaded free apps before, then deleted them when I purchased upgrades, they also disappeared from the Itunes list.
