I’ve read and followed your instructions about how to remove the dreaded Norton Anti-Virus from my Microsoft Windows XP computer, but somehow the $#$@ thing isn’t fully removed yet. Dave, this is driving me batty! Is there some additional or updated instruction you can share with us? I hate Symantec!!
Through some stupid moves on my part, I now have a trashed Mac and an iPod that is full of music. Problem is, every time I hook up the iPod to any other computer, iTunes promptly wants to empty it and reformat it, which would stink because i have tons of music and even some movies on the unit. Help!

I recently noticed that a few of the sites I visit seem to be cloaking or hiding their links when they point out to another site. I’ve heard of this cloaking to hide affiliate links, but am wondering whether it’s a good idea and why you, for example, don’t mask your own links?

In your book Wicked Cool Shell Scripts, on p. 115, Script #40 Reporting Disk Hogs, on the 8th line the second part of the line reads:

I am very new to shell scripting, so I am probably just not understanding how this line should be interpreted. In my Linux class, I have been learning that in the /etc/passwed file the 1st field is username, the 2nd field is password (x), and the third field is the UID, so wouldn’t the $2 above really be $3 so that the script would be checking to see if the UID field, which is field 3 is greater that 99, not the password field,which is field 2? Please let me know, since this is confusing to me. Thanks for your help.
This is baffling me: I have accounts on quite a few different Web sites and most of them just ask me for my account and password. Some of them, however, have a handy checkbox labeled “remember me” but now I just signed up for one that has a checkbox for “public terminal”. What does that mean?

Hey Dave is there anyway we can have the “Computer” icon show up on the desktop, and the Hardsisks mounted within this folder. Much like Windows? Coz I have too many partitions (3 Harddisks with almost 5-6 partitions on each disks)
