This kind of weird behavior drives me crazy when it happens too. If only everything just worked properly! But that’s not what computers seem to be all about, so I dug around and found this site that suggests both problems can be solved by clearing out the Temporary Internet Files.
Microsoft has a support tip on this subject too if you’d rather read the official solution path. The Microsoft solution indicates that you can solve the .bmp problem by deleting
the Temporary Internet Files, and then deleting any “downloaded objects”
listed as “unknown” or “damaged” (the page includes details).
I just un-installed IE7, (which Microsoft basically forced me to install with its dire security warning)because I had all sorts of problems with it. But now, the basic text on all websites is extremely FAINT/LIGHT, making it very difficult for me to read. This was NOT the case before I installed IE7 and then un-installed. I am not a very sophisticated user (and am using Windows XP) and would appreciate any advice you can give me on how to fix this problem. Thanks! Laura Diallo
Rahul,
I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM on an Acer 3300 laptop, that I can’t fix. Everything is cool with firefox and Netscape but these display issues are also outside of IE, even in my palm desktop. Were you ever able to get Dave’s help to get this fixed???
Dave, I am haveing trouble with Internet Explorer, About five seconds after opening the browser, is closes its self without giving an error message or warning. How can I fix the problem? Thanks, Scott
Dave:
I don’t know whether this is the right place to put up my query …however…here it goes…I have recently bought a Acer 4021 Laptop with following config;
Intel Centrino 1.6
264 MB RAM
60 GB HD
Wi Fi (I don’t use it)
Bluetooth
With XP SP2
The problem I am facing is that …for past one week all the fonts and website layout have gone for a toss…the msn website appears all jumbled up …not just the font size but also the box size have increased 5 times…If I use Netscape 8 everything works fine…similarly on the google web page the text size is large and the box size for search is also huge.
Following is a list of all the troubleshooting I have done on my own
1. Went to View>Text Size> Medium or smallest font size decreases but slightly and the box size remain unaffected.
2. I have tried repairing IE 6 via INF file.
3. I have checked the display settings and everything seems fine.
The other problem is that after this thing started the display of certain software like Norton Anti Virus and MS Media Player have also changed. Fonts in MS Outlook have also increased…so my problem is if I stop using IE 6 and use Netscape web browsing would be ok but the display problem will remain the same for other programs.
Any suggestions will be more than welcome. Thanx for your time in advance.
Regards,
Rahul T
