Open your wallet and have a close look at all your credit and ID cards within. If you’re like me, I bet you see “smart” cards, NFC-enabled ID badges, cards with embedded chips and even RFID-ready cards. This means you’re at risk of both credit card and identity theft, and you probably don’t even know it.
Turns out that a lot of these technologies have a range that’s closer to 3-feet than 3-inches, which means that if a criminal who has even the most basic Google search skill has built an RFID skimmer (search for plans to build one yourself, they’re free to download) they can simply walk past you and download way more data than you want to share.
