I don’t really understand what’s happened, but some of the apps on my iPhone are no longer showing up on my new Apple Watch Sports Edition. How do I resync my Watch apps with my iPhone?
I had a similar situation arise with my own Apple Watch Sport (by the way, “Sport” and “Edition” are two different types of Apple Watch, so I don’t think you could have both styles simultaneously!) after having to power it down for 10 days or so while I left it in the office while on an extended road trip. There was also an iOS 8 update on my iPhone 6 while I was on the road, so I’m not entirely sure whether it was the fact that I shut off the Watch for over a week, the iOS8 update, or something unrelated that caused the problem.
My first reaction was to unpair the Watch from the iPhone and reinitialize it, but to my surprise it ended up with the same apps on the Apple Watch and a few of my apps missing in action. Weird.
Turns out that you have app-by-app control over what appears on the Apple Watch and that’s what I needed to tweak, in this case to get Shazam and Swarm to show up on the Watch. Here’s how I fixed it…
First off, on my Apple Watch, lots of apps, but not everything I wanted:
To fix it I had to go into the Apple Watch app on my Apple iPhone instead. A tap on that icon and here’s what I was looking at:
A quick tap on “App Layout” confirmed that Swarm and Shazam were missing, not just overlooked:
To fix it, I backed up in the Apple Watch app and scrolled down to the entry for the specific app I wanted. In this case, Swarm from FourSquare, on the list:
A tap on “Swarm” and the secret button is revealed:
Ahhh! That’s the critical control.
A tap on the slider to select “yes” to the prompt Show App on Apple Watch and all was fixed!
In fact, even in the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, you can see in the layout view that the Swarm app has reappeared:
and, of course, on the Watch itself, the app has reappeared:
So that’s it. No repairing needed, and really a fairly straightforward process. Oh, and notice on the very bottom a tiny Shazam icon is displayed too, so that’s also fixed. Huzzah!
I do not understand your solution. What did you backup up and how to solve this problem ?
This is great, but what happens if the app doesn’t not appear in the Apple Watch as a compatible app, when you know for a fact it is?
“know for a fact” seems to fly in the face of reality, Mark. Are you sure you have the right version of everything?
