The coolest thing about playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online is the ability to procure your own pirate ship. Being the captain of the ship comes with its advantages, but it comes with its duties and responsibilities as well; the seas of Pirates Online can prove quite treacherous to those who know nothing of ships and sailing. Use these tips to gain the edge on your competition and leave your enemies with a message, ‘Beware, all those that challenge you’.
As you progress in the game you will be introduced to a few different types of ships. Sloops are the first of the vessels available to you (and the only one available to those playing for free); these are the fastest and quick at maneuvering, but lack the capacity for crew, cargo and many cannons. Galleons are slow moving heavily defended ships; they can carry a large crew/cargo and are loaded with weapons. Frigates represent the balance of both worlds, moving fast while still being able to carry a heavy crew/cargo; these ships are also well equipped with cannons.
Once you decide on the type that’s right for you, take a look at the ships attributes. Just like your character, your ship is rated in terms of it’s health, defense, cannon power etc. Compare and contrast different ships to find the one that meets the qualifications you desire.
Congratulations! You now have your dream pirate ship.
So now let’s take it into battle. When you find yourself engaged with an enemy ship you need to be able to keep a good eye on it. Try zooming the camera all the way out; this will make it much easier to maneuver your ship and hit your target. It’s impossible to defeat an enemy you can’t properly see.
Players sometimes make the mistake of concentrating only on firing their cannons and cease to steer the ship. The enemy will have a much harder time hitting a moving target; make sure that you are in constant motion especially when your weapons are reloading. For your opponent, a ship that is sitting completely still and is no longer able to return fire is nothing but a giant bulls eye.
If you are having a hard time outrunning your opponent in Pirates of the Caribbean, you need to resort to drastic measures. Try to keep your ship facing perpendicular to the enemy (think about a ‘T’ shape), you will be much more vulnerable to attack if the enemy is able to fire on you lengthwise. The bow or stern of the ship is narrow and you force your opponent to concentrate much harder on aiming his shots if he wants to land a hit.
If you’re feeling confident, once he is out of shots you can swing around again and blow him away or otherwise you can use the opportunity to make a full retreat without giving yourself up as an easy target.
