Hey Dave, how can I delete a number or entry from my favorite list on my new iPhone 4?
If you have kids or a mischievous friend, this might well be a critical thing to learn, actually, and I know because, oddly, my Favorites list on my own iPhone’s call list keep changing. I blame my kids, especially when their friends move up on the list and my friends move down or vanish (remember, it’s my phone!)
Fortunately, it’s really easy to work with the Favorites list in the Phone app on your iPhone, whether you have a fancy new iPhone 4s, an iPhone 4 or even an older 3gs or similar.
I’m going to demonstrate two things here, the first of which is how to delete an entry from your iPhone favorites list, but along the way, I’ll also point out how to reorganize your entries so that the most important — or most frequently dialed — numbers are always conveniently at the top.
I do have to admit, however, that since I got an iPhone 4s with Siri, I don’t use the Favorites so much any more and instead just tell the phone “Call Dad” or “Call Lamar” or similar. Then again, in a noisy environment, Siri does get easily confused…
Anyway, here’s my Favorites list on my iPhone:
To delete an entry or reorder entries, tap on the “Edit” button on the top left.
Now you’ll see a red circle with a white dash to the left of each entry, and a button that’s three horizontal lines on the right of each entry:
I might well visit the Apple store frequently, but I really don’t call that often and certainly don’t need it on my Favorites list. My theory? My kids put it there hoping I’d call and order another iPad for them to share. Sheesh.
To delete the “Apple Store Boulder” entry from this point, I simply tap on the red circle. This causes the white line to rotate and a “Delete” button to appear:
If I want to delete the entry, I tap on “Delete” and it’s gone:
If I’d changed my mind and decided I didn’t want to delete that entry, another tap on the red circle would back me up, or a tap on “Done” on the top left would end the edit and reorganization completely.
Want to change the order of entries? In “Edit” mode, tap and drag on the little horizontal lines icon. Up to move it further up the list, down to move it down the list. When you’re done reorganizing, simply tap on “Done” on the top left.
System mastered. 🙂
