Killzone 2 Walkthru Part VIII: The Cruiser

September 15, 2009 / Dave Taylor / Video Game Tips / No Comments

[This is the eighth of a series of Killzone 2 walkthrus we’ll be publishing, all with videos and all written by gamer Alex Juel. If you have questions about the game, please don’t hesitate to post them here and Alex will do his best to answer them. If you haven’t already read it, start with Killzone 2: Corinth River, Killzone 2: Blood Meridian, Killzone 2: Visari Square, Killzone 2: Salamun District, Killzone 2: Salamum Bridge, Killzone 2: Suljeva Village, and Killzone 2: Tharsis Refinery, and stay tuned for subsequent parts, too!]
Here’s a summary of the game’s storyline (courtesy of Wikipedia): Killzone 2 is set on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy’s homeworld. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.
In the game you assume the role of Sergeant Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit Alpha Team, who are on a mission to eliminate the Helghast threat. During the invasion, Sev’s unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Responsible for securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed the power of the frequent lightning storms.
A cold, barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself.
Now, ready to get started? Great!

Landing Bay
The Helghast will begin attacking The New Sun, so you have to get to the Colonel to find out what the plan is.
Go straight and up the elevator. You’ll be able to see the destruction taking place on your way up, but you won’t have to worry about shooting back.

When the elevator stops exit to the right and you’ll see the Helghast bust through the wall. You can take them all out with one grenade if timed correctly.
Take the next elevator up to see the Colonel.
Bridge
The Colonel will give you orders to keep the Higs off their backs and assign you to the gun deck. Head out of the office and back down the elevator you just came up on.
Go to the entrance and pick up the machine gun on the rack if you need it.

Once you cross these doors and they close, you won’t be able to back out.
Power Room
After entering this area, Helghast will come at you from both sides and will come through the ceiling in the middle, so find some cover. I recommend moving to one of the corners. After clearing this floor, you can take the stairs in the back down to the next floor.
More Helghast will be coming as you go down the stairs. There will also be sentry bots out in the middle area. After running down the stairs, run straight forward into the dead end room for cover. Recover if you need to and go down the next set of stairs.
You should have at least one teammate here that you’ll run into, so try not to kill him.

On the floor below there is a “Heavy” and two Helghast armed with flame throwers, so stay away from the edge because all of them can reach you. Stay on this floor and kill the flame thrower guys below first. Once they are dead you can start taking out the “Heavy” from the where you’re at or try going down to the last floor. If you have enough ammo, it’s easier staying above him.
This “Heavy” is just a normal one, so just shoot him in the head to daze him and then shoot the tank on his back to kill him. Once he’s dead, go down to the last floor and to the doors leading to the traffic control room.
Air Traffic Control
Wait for the ISA trooper to open the doors and enter the control room. They’ll advise you to go down the stairs and helm the Port AA gun.
The enemies will be marked on red on the screen and red arrows will guide you to where the enemy ships are at. Try not to overheat the gun, but shoot continuously by tapping the trigger. If you start letting them get by, they’ll kill you really quick.

After depleting the ammo, get off the gun and head for the doors straight behind you to meet up with Natko.
Core Elevator
Follow Natko down the hallway and to the elevator. As you’re going down, watch out for Helghast who will jump onto the elevator and attack you.

When you get off the elevator, make your way down the hallway.
Emergency Stairwell
Near the end of the hallway will be several Helghast with grenades and one with a flamethrower.
INTEL CASE! Enter the doors and kill the Helghast below you before going down the stairs. Follow Natko to the next room. This room will have stairs leading up right as you enter the doorway. Go up those stairs and turn around where you’ll find an intel case a short distance ahead on the floor up against the wall.

Go back down and go to the other end where you’ll find more stairs leading down. Turn the corner where you’ll run into two more Helghast.
Launch Bay
After crossing the small walkway to the next area, there will be an enemy armed with a flamethrower. Kill him and then clear the area below of the Helghast that come rushing in, then go through the door they came through.

Follow Natko down and to the launch bay…
and we’ll continue our walkthru, don’t miss it!
