Killzone 2 Walkthru Part VII: Tharsis Refinery

August 27, 2009 / Dave Taylor / Video Game Tips / 1 Comment

[This is the seventh of a series of Killzone 2 walkthrus we’ll be publishing, all with videos and all written by gamer Alex Juel. If you have questions about the game, please don’t hesitate to post them here and Alex will do his best to answer them. If you haven’t already read it, start with Killzone 2: Corinth River, Killzone 2: Blood Meridian, Killzone 2: Visari Square, Killzone 2: Salamun District, Killzone 2: Salamum Bridge and Killzone 2: Suljeva Village, and stay tuned for subsequent parts, too!]
Here’s a summary of the game’s storyline (courtesy of Wikipedia): Killzone 2 is set on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy’s homeworld. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.
In the game you assume the role of Sergeant Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit Alpha Team, who are on a mission to eliminate the Helghast threat. During the invasion, Sev’s unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Responsible for securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed the power of the frequent lightning storms.
A cold, barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself.
Now, ready to get started? Great!

You’ll start out the mission with only your handgun as a weapon, so you’ll want to find a good one soon. If you stick to the left side of the train, you’ll come to a gun rack next to the tank right at the beginning. The boltgun should do the trick.
As soon as you move forward from the gun rack, the Helghast will attack from ahead. Kill them and go inside the cabin door on the right side of the train. There’s another gun rack to the left of the staircase if you want a new gun.
Now go up the stairs and shoot the Helghast down below. Watch out because the Higs will make their way up the second level to attack you, so keep a watch to your sides. Exit the cabin and back out onto the open train.
Run straight ahead and jump up onto the tank with the red light on the back of it. Start taking out all of the oncoming Helghast. When it seems there are none left, jump off the tank and watch out around corners because there might be a few still back there.

After this section, you’ll walk to the left around a large container. There’s a tank off in the distance with a Hig on the machine gun and a swarm of Helghast coming towards you. Take out this group with a grenade if you can and shoot the rest.
On the gun rack, you’ll find a missile launcher. Pick this up as fast as you can and shoot the tank until you are empty. The Helghast will keep coming while you’re here, so you have to fast and accurate.
After blowing up the tank, you shouldn’t have too hard of a time running forward and stopping the onrush of enemies.
Before reaching the end of the train, two Helghast will jump off both sides of the top of the cabin. Kill them and head inside to find the conductor.
Tharsis Station
After the train stops, you’ll find yourself in a train station. There are about four Helghast here, who’ll come towards you if you stay behind the cover closest to where you got off the train. When they are coming, shoot the electrical explosives to take them out.
Now go over to the fence and help Rico over. Once you do this, stick to the same wall the fence is on and run forward, where a door will open, letting out several Helghast.

SYMBOL! After killing this group, look at the side of the train all the way up in the front to find a symbol.
Now go through the door that the Helghast just came out of, duck under the beam and the floor will fall through. Shoot the transformer on the far back wall to the left to disable the electrical field.
Lower Refinery Complex
After disabling the electrical field, don’t go out of the door yet. Stay here for cover, because several Helghast will be coming.
There are couple that will come down the stairs to the right directly around the corner from you, so you can use the electrical explosives nearby to take them out.
You need to take the elevator platform down to the lower level, but you can’t get on it yet until you disable the electricity flowing through the ground. The transormer to disable it is on the wall above the stairs where the previous Helghast came down to attack you.
After disabling the electricity, go to the far left corner of the platform and press the button to go down. Don’t worry about killing anybody on your way down, because it won’t matter.

Once you hit the bottom, you’ll have to fight a “Heavy” armed with an electricity gun. You have to shoot the large containers that are being carried overhead while the “Heavy” is near them in order to daze him. Once he’s dazed, run behind him and shoot the tanks on his back. When he starts getting back up, sprint behind one of the shipping containers, because his electricity gun will kill you fast.
If he moves too far away from the overhead containers, you’ll have to run out there so he’ll follow you. He doesn’t really have to be that close for the container to daze him. When he’s dead, make sure you pick up his gun, because this is the only time you’ll be able to use it.
If you’re facing the direction that you entered this room, there is a ladder on the left that you can climb up to open up your way out of here. After pressing the button, a Helghast will come out of the door and another one will be on the platforms directly across from you. You can kill them both with the electricity gun from where you’re currently standing.
Climb down the ladder and go through the newly opened door. Climb up the ladder and navigate through the walkways until you see the conveyor system carrying some buckets.
Processing Complex
Climb into one of the buckets as they come by. Look out of the bucket and you’ll pass by a small gaurd shack with a couple of Helghast stationed as well as several more who’ll attack you from the same area as you’re in the bucket. You’re electricity gun should be able to reach everyone fairly easily.
When Rico tells you that there’s an electricity field ahead, look torward the field and you’ll see the tranformer on the wall to the left. Once disabled, you’ll drop out of the bucket.

SYMBOL! On the ground, continue in the direction that the electricity field was in. Go as far as you can and look in the small space to the left where you’ll find a symbol on the wall.
INTEL CASE! Now go back and enter the rooms that you’re right next to. Past the first room and in the second, there will be a couple of Helghast. Kill them and then look for the intel case sitting on one of the counter tops.
Leave the rooms and continue through the walkway.
Cross Facility Shipping
You’ll come to a large open area with a walkway covered in crates that goes all the around to the other side. Up above and to your sides there will be sentry bots all the way around this place, so keep your electricity gun charged.
When you reach the platform, press the button to go up.

Turn around to get off the elevator and make your way back to Rico. If you see spiders on the ground, shoot them with your pistol, because the electricity gun won’t harm them at all.
Transportation Control
INTEL CASE! Run down the hallway and meet up with Rico. When he’s done talking, look for the intel case sitting on the counter in the middle of the room.

Follow Rico down the walkways to find the rest of your team.
Central Observatory
SYMBOL! As soon as the cut-scene is through and the battle begins, look up to the right of where you’re standing and find the symbol way up on the wall, right near the second floor up above.
Take the ramp up and kill the sentry bots and Helghast along they way. The sentry bots will keep coming until you make it up to the top, so don’t waste too much time. When you get to the stairs near the top, there is also a ladder back behind the stairs. You can take either way, because I didn’t find one of them to be better than the other.

Once at the top, clear the area and take the stairs up to the control room. Facing the windows that look out towards the platform elevator in the middle, there is a button that will lower the platform for Garza and Evelyn. Press it and wait near the doors for Natko to unlock them.
Follow Natko and Rico out to the aerial dock.
Tharsis Aerial Dock
Kill any of the Helghast out on the lower level of the dock and the shoot and then kill the rest up on the outside perimeter of the area. The enemies will keep coming, so you have just have to wait until Evelyn comes out of the building.
She’ll run to a set of doors in the far back of the dock. Protect them while Natko unlocks the door for Evelyn. When the doors are unlocked, lead Evelyn up to the gaurd tower, where there is one Helghast waiting at the top of the stairs.

Grab the sniper rifle on the ground near the window and start killing all of the Helghast down below as you can until backup arrives. An ISA aircraft will come in and will clear the area.
Now head back down to the middle of the dock…
Looking good! You’re getting the hang of this… now, stay tuned for the rest of our walkthrus.

I got stuck in the Cross Refinery Shipping section because the game would not allow me to proceed. So, I Quit the game and that took me to the main menu for the cd. I then selected “Campaign” then “Mission Select” and selected the mission that i was on and that allowed me to progress.
