[This is the third of a series of Killzone 2 walkthrus we’ll be publishing, all with videos and all written by gamer Alex Juel. If you have questions about the game, please don’t hesitate to post them here and Alex will do his best to answer them. If you haven’t already read it, start with Killzone 2 Walk-Thru: Corinth River and Killzone 2 Walk-Thru: Blood Meridian, and stay tuned for subsequent parts, too!]
Here’s a summary of the game’s storyline (courtesy of Wikipedia): Killzone 2 is set on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy’s homeworld. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.
In the game you assume the role of Sergeant Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit Alpha Team, who are on a mission to eliminate the Helghast threat. During the invasion, Sev’s unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Responsible for securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed the power of the frequent lightning storms.
A cold, barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself.
Now, ready to get started? Great!
Prefect’s Office
SYMBOL! Follow Garza out onto the walkway. Go straight through the doorway and if you look left and down, you’ll find the Helghast below attacking your team. Through this chain link fence, look directly across from where you are at and you’ll find a symbol on the building. You should be able to shoot it through the fence.
You can make your way down to the ground from the rooftop. Go off the ledge to the right of Garza. You can keep jumping forward, but it’s easier if you go down one level and then go inside the building. The building will have a stairwell that leads to the ground where the battle is taking place.
I found that the easiest way to get through this section is to take cover immediately leaving the building and making your way to the other side by running along the furthest left side of street.
Try hiding behind the tank on the left and taking out as many guys as you can before running over to the side of the building that the Helghast are currently occupying.
From here, you can kill the Helghast shooting at your team and then run into the building.Clear out the bottom floor before going up the stairs.
At the top of the stairs you’ll see a wide open room, There a couple of Helghast here, but watch out for the door to your left. The Helghast will try to attack you while your not paying attention.
From the wide open room, go through the doorway that leads out to the balcony. Go through the next doorway on the balcony into a room where there are several Helghast. Kill them from outside the doorway before entering. There is a small explosive tank sitting on the floor right in front of the door that will help.
SYMBOL! Enter the room and turn right to go to the next area. This area goes around in a square loop. On the other side of the hole in the floor in this room, you’ll see four doorways. In the third doorway from the left you’ll find a symbol.
As you leave this room, there are many windows on the left side of the hallway. There will be a Helghast up above on the roof shooting you through these windows. Continue to the room with the hole in the floor.
Malik Back Alleys
INTEL CASE! After falling down the hole in the floor, look behind the desk in the corner of the same room for an intel case.
There are two Helghast on the lower level when you exit the room. When you go up the stairs, there will be one more Helghast you’ll have to kill near the door that’s protected by the electric field.
To turn off the electric field, follow the cable above the door to a small electrical box up to the left side of the door. Shoot the box and disable the field.
SYMBOL! Before going through the door, go to the very top of the stairs and you’ll see the symbol on the wall out past the stairs.
Go through the door and down the staircase.
Ostoia End
After exiting the stairwell, look to your right and you’ll see two Helghast overlooking the catwalk to the ground below. You can easily take these guys out with a grenade.
SYMBOL! Go up the staircase directly to the left of the doorway. When you reach the top of the stairs, turn around and you’ll see a symbol on the back wall.
From here, walk across the catwalk and turn right. At the end of this walkway, before going into the tunnel, there will be a ladder on the right side that will lead you to the ground where you’ll meet up with Alpha squad
There will be two Helghast who come out from each side once you get off the ladder.Kill them and run straight forward to rendezvous up with Rico and Natko.
Union Storage Yard
Rico and Natko will be taking cover behind some sandbags near the back. You can hang out here while the Helghast enter the area and attack your team.
The Helghast will come from the same direction of the ladder you just came down. If you’re facing that same direction, the Helghast will also be coming from behind the fence to the left of the sandbags.
SYMBOL! If you look at the wall facing that fence, you’ll see a ladder leading up another level. Above the ladder and to the right, you’ll find the last symbol.
After taking out the first wave of Helghast on the ground, more Helghast will come from an aircraft and will attack from the building’s various floors below it.
When Natko yells to fall back, go up the second floor. Four Helghast will come out of the tunnels that are facing the sandbags where you were previosly taking cover. Run all the way to the end of the walkway and kill the Helghast as they come out. They won’t even expect it.
After killing these guys, more Helghast will come from behind the fence near the sandbags. A Helghast vehicle will also plow through the wall of the building where the aircraft was earlier. The Helghast will come right out of the front so if you time it right, you can take most of them out with a grenade.
When Garza announces that that Narville wants your team in the square, a door will open near the sandbags. Enter the building and follow Natko and Garza to a room where they’ll start talking trash to each other.
INTEL CASE! When they’re done talking, look on the floor behind them for an intel case. Follow them through the building to the Square.
The Square
Once in the Square it’s an all-out battle. The best way to take control of the area, is by running straight up to the Square as fast you can. You’re team will follow you up and make it easy to kill all the Helghast.
After they are dead, the Helghast will come from the very back of the area. Man a machine gun to take out as many as you can, but be careful, because you can die extremely fast one one.
I found it easiest to choose one side of The Square and kill the Helghast as the come closer.
Make sure you keep your team alive and revive them when they go down, because this will keep the battle much easier.
When Rico tells you to grab more ammo, another wave of Helghast will come from the front. An enemy dropship will eventually drop more enemies to the ground.
After killing this wave of Helghast, more will come from behind the Square from a cable car. Turn around and run to the left. You should be able to kill most of them fairly easily as they exit the car. When they’re dead, run back to the front.
There will be two “Heavies” on both sides of The Square. It shouldn’t be too difficult to shoot them in the head and blow up the tanks on their back by using the machine guns.
Killing them ends the level.
