Including Word files on your Web site

January 27, 2004 / Dave Taylor / HTML & Web Page Design / 1 Comment

A reader writes:

Can I place a Microsoft Word doc on my website for download? It works when I
test it on my hard drive; but doesn’t work once I FTP it to the website.

The key is to ensure that you are specifying a binary transfer when you send the file up to the server. Then you should be able to have something like get the Word file and it should work without a hitch.
