Some of the best audio companies in the world have taken their time in the wireless world, watching how competitor's products fare on the market and tuning their own products. Altec-Lansing has been in the audio business for years, but its first true wireless headphones, the True EVO, are a recent addition to the market. Sporting that trademark Altec-Lansing sound and Qi wireless charging, was it worth the wait for the True EVO? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ auditions and reviews the Altec-Lansing True EVO Wireless Headphones and finds that there's a lot to like about the design and sound, but that it's critical to get the right ear"wings" and eartips in place first... True wireless earbuds with Chi charging
0:02
Let's check these out. Dave Taylor here again, and this time I'm looking at wireless earbuds
0:14
Yes, I know. That's a super unique category for me. We've looked at, I don't know, 20, 30, 40 different kinds of wireless earbuds
0:21
But this time it's from a company with a long and very famous history in audio gear
0:28
Altec Lansing. So it's these. These are the Altek Lansing True Evo Wireless Earphones model MZX659
0:38
And they're basically in this box. Now, what makes this box itself really interesting is it does wireless charging
0:46
So, you know, take that Apple. So you put it on a Chi charger
0:51
And as you can see on the front lights, it's now charging. That is really nice
0:55
Don't have a Chi charger? Well, it includes one, actually. the package includes a small wireless charger, which is really nice, except, well, you know, the package I got didn't have one
1:07
So I'm actually going back and forth with Altek Lansing. I know they're going to send it
1:11
I have no issues about that. This is just life as a reviewer. Sometimes you get things that aren't exactly the customer version
1:18
But if you get it, I'm confident you will have the wireless charger in it
1:22
It's okay, though, because I have a different wireless charger. Now, obviously, I can leave my phone on there, and my phone will charge wirelessly
1:28
that's really nice but I really like that the earbuds also charge wirelessly that's just a really
1:33
great additional feature and Apple is obviously behind the eight ball on that one with their
1:39
AirPods but of course it's really about the buds themselves and here's something that's kind of
1:45
interesting because they have ear tips that you're required to use you really can't you know
1:50
do it without these little wings and I'll show you what I mean by that so you see that the wing
1:53
because they do that the way it's designed is that you actually
1:58
actually cross over So the right hand ear the right ear is on the left side of the case So you just sort of learn as you take it out put it in spin it forward a little bit so it sort of engages with that little part of your ear that for most people actually it fits really nicely and then you do the same with the other one
2:19
Now, one of the things Alt-Tick Lansing doesn't do is it doesn't automatically turn on and it
2:25
doesn't automatically pair. So I now have the earbuds in my ears which is all well and good
2:30
but they're dead. So I have to turn them on, which is easily done by just pushing and holding for a
2:36
second or two, powering on, all tech lensing, and beep, beep, and I'm good, and I can now look
2:43
on my phone. I should be, let's see, yep, they are connected on my phone, so I can just jump straight to
2:50
some music, and let's see what it sounds like. So, yep, it's all working
2:57
That's all well and good. Now, you know, I wish they would have figured out the whole take them out and put them in
3:04
your ears and by then they're already paired. That's really, I'm not sure why they didn't do that
3:09
but I'm going to put them back in, so they'll charge a little bit. It's pretty straightforward to
3:14
work with these, though. Now, let me tell you a little bit about them. So they are IPX6 sweatproof
3:20
so you can wear them on your run or if it starts raining while you're on a bike ride or something
3:25
That's good. 20 to 20,000 hertz frequency response with 6mm drivers. The earbuds themselves
3:33
as you can see they are big. These are big units. But that gives you four hours of battery life per charge
3:41
And then you get into this base unit, and the base unit gives you four more charges
3:46
So that's four, eight, 12, 16, right? That's 20 hours of total runtime if you have these charged
3:54
and then the base is fully charged. And even better, if you have access to a wireless charger
4:00
you're charging. So that's super easy to work with. They have, like all these earbuds, they have the one tap just asks
4:07
So each ear has a button on it, they have different functions
4:11
it's all explained in here. It's not as complicated as many of the ones I look at
4:16
So things like volume you gonna wanna probably just use your device And if you wanna skip tracks there are button sequences but it honestly easier for me to tap my phone out and go tap go on to the next one So let see So it charges via micro USB
4:31
There's a little plug in the back. And if that's not rocking it for you, then obviously you can also do wireless, which is nice
4:38
If it would have come with its wireless charger, that would be even nicer. That makes the price a little bit easier to manage
4:44
But I will also note that on the front, you can see hopefully there's a little tiny red light
4:49
that shows you the earbuds are charging. So if that light goes out, then you know your earbuds are fully charged, which is nice
4:57
So really, the key thing, the key question is, okay, that's all well and good, but how do they sound
5:05
But before we get to sound, let me tell you that when I made some phone calls, people said it sounded good, not great, but good
5:11
My end, it sounded really good, so that was nice. And when I watched video, I didn't experience any lag, so that was nice
5:17
So if you want to watch Netflix and you want to use these to get the sound, you will be fine, you will be happy
5:23
So that's good. But what does that sound actually sound like? And here's the thing, is they come with a lot of different size ear tips and wings
5:33
I guess I call them wing tips or something. So you have a lot of different options to get things to fit perfectly
5:40
And that's really important because when I took these straight out of the container and put them in my ears, they kept falling out
5:46
And that was super frustrating. And I'm not saying that I went for a run and then they were falling out
5:51
I'm saying that I was sitting there and I could feel it slowly slipping and then fall out
5:56
So then I changed to the correct size. I use a large to the correct size wings and ear tips
6:04
And then suddenly that problem went away. And, you know, the sound is good
6:09
It's not fantastic. I was a little surprised that even when I went into the EQ on my phone and gave it a
6:16
little bass boost, I still don't feel like there's a lot of bass in this
6:20
Now other people have said that they think it has really great bass response
6:23
So I don't know, maybe that's my ears. I will also say the large tips did not
6:28
block out very much at all ambient noise So if you use these in a noisy environment you still going to hear all the noise Although again maybe that my ears Maybe it the size of these tips versus the size of my ears Your experience might be different
6:43
But I will say, for my experience, that there are a lot of earbuds that block out a lot of
6:49
the environmental and ambient noise around you, which is nice, because then you get to
6:54
replace that with your music. These are not like that for me
6:58
So, nonetheless, they do have a nice, crisp, light. audio response and when I'm listening to music it sounds really nice in a quiet environment like my own office
7:09
then they actually sound really good again not a whole lot of depth not a whole lot of base response
7:16
for me but overall there's a very precise sound which is exactly what it'd expect from all tech
7:22
lansing so before I get to the price let me ask as you know if you watch my videos I'm going to
7:28
ask you to click subscribe so subscribe to my channel thank you no I'm not hostile seriously I'm glad I
7:34

7:44
Lansing true EVO wireless earphones model mzx 659 and you can pick them up for
7:51
$99 at best buy.com and I can say that they are not my favorite wireless earphones model
7:58
earbuds, but you know what, they're pretty darn nice and they might work really well for you
8:03
They get huge points for the wireless charging and they get even more points for including
8:07
a wireless charger in the package. If only my package would have included it too
8:13
That's how it goes. But anyway, so those are the pros and cons, the ups and the downs and these are the all-tech lensings
8:20

8:24
