It's surprising just how many adults of all ages have partial hearing loss in one or both ears, but that's because it's hard to know when you're not hearing as well as you did when you were younger. Cearvol solves the problem for mild or moderate hearing loss with its FDA registered Diamond X1 OTC Hearing Aid. Tech expert Dave Taylor has a close look at the Cearvol Diamond X1 over-the-counter hearing aid and finds that there's a lot appealing about its design and feature set. This video also includes a live demonstration of the companion Cearvol app and a sample of the 4 beamform mic pickup capabilities too. These aren't earbuds. These are FDA registered over-the-counter hearing aids
0:05
Let's check them out. Dave Taylor here, and you'd be shocked at what percentage of people in this country
0:17
actually suffer from some level of hearing loss. Now, it is one of the most underreported illnesses and problems that people have
0:26
because it's really hard to know when you go from really, good hearing to not such great hearing. So you just sort of gradually lose fidelity. And I know that for me
0:37
when I'm in a group, it's hard to hear the person speaking because there's so much noise around me
0:43
I don't ever recall that being an issue, but now it definitely is. And my solution sometimes is just to
0:49
smile and nod and then occasionally say, I'm sorry, can you say that again? Or I can't quite hear you
0:55
It's really loud in here. So there are better solutions. Now, there are
0:59
lots of super expensive hearing aids, but we're in an age where hardware has caught up
1:07
and now there are over-the-counter solutions that offer really good alternatives from mild
1:14
to medium hearing loss. Now, first thing I got to say is that if you're under 18, this is not
1:21
a solution for you. You need to go talk to a doctor if you're having any hearing loss, and now is
1:26
the time to do it before it gets worse. But if you're over 18, then something like these are really interesting. This, let me pull one out so you can see it
1:39
This is the Searval Diamond X1 over-the-counter hearing aid. And as you can see, it just looks like an
1:47
earbud. And in fact, if I put this in my ear and you look, you can't really tell that I'm not
1:54
just wearing a pair of earbuds. So one of the issues with people having
1:59
hearing loss is they don't want to actually have it be obvious that's happening. So this generation
2:06
of hearing aids that are designed as if they are Apple AirPods or similar sort of devices is really cool
2:15
Now, I got a lot of specs and then we're going to actually do a demo. I'm going to show you the
2:18
app and everything. But let's start with a close-up as I read some specs. So they feature 5.8
2:26
millimeter dynamic drivers, and the frequency response is really interesting. It's 200 to 6,000
2:33
hertz with a latency of less than 15 milliseconds. Why is that frequency response interesting
2:39
Because normal hearing, normal might not be the right word, but roll with me here, is 20 to 20,000
2:46
hertz. That's what most like audio gear is. So you know off the bat that the really high highs and the really
2:54
low lows aren't going to be reproduced. These are not intended to be music listening devices
3:02
though they work perfectly well for that. They're really tuned for the human voice
3:06
which is not going down to that subwifor level, and it's not going so high that only dogs can
3:13
hear it. So that all makes sense. Bluetooth 5.3, one of the very latest generations of the protocol
3:19
So you're never going to have an issue with, like, one being paired and the other one being
3:24
out of sync or anything, that's just gone. 12-hour battery on the individual AirPods
3:31
or I shouldn't call them AirPods, the individual buds, we'll call them
3:37
And then the case actually has 2x charge giving you over 30 hours of listening
3:43
And here's one thing really cool, is if it complains that it running out of battery then drop it in the case close the case and in 10 minutes you get three more hours of listening out of it And that really handy And notice in the front I hope you could
3:58
see that there are tiny LEDs that give you this charge status of the case and of each earbud
4:05
And when the case needs charging, it's USBC on the side. You can plug it into your computer
4:11
or a wall charger, whatever you want. I'll show you all the contents of the box that includes
4:17
a charging cable. But IPX5 water resistance. So if you wear these and you're outside and it
4:23
starts raining, you don't have to panic that you need to cover them up. And here's an interesting
4:27
thing. The microphone includes environmental noise canceling. So it has wind noise management
4:33
In fact, there's a lot of AI in the circuitry here, both with how it reduces background noise
4:40
and gives you the ability to hear what you want to hear and the ability for it to actually pick up
4:46
just your voice in a noisy environment. So again, mild to moderate hearing loss. It is FDA
4:53
registered. There are four hearing modes on the device, but you can also go into the app and you can
4:59
actually go through quite a few more. And let me just show you in the box. You can see in this
5:06
close-up, there's a charging cable in the lower portion. And in the upper portion, there are six
5:12
different sizes of ear tips, three in each of two. styles. The very first thing you want to do when you get these is you want to
5:21
actually try different size ear tips to get the ones that are most comfortable
5:26
and work best for you. And one of the cool things is the app itself actually has a
5:32
hearing test. Speaking of which, let's go into the app. So what I'm going to do is I'm
5:36
going to actually put these on and when you have it facing you, the right side goes
5:41
in your right ear and it's already now connected with my phone and the left side goes in the left ear
5:50
And then here's the case. It's incredibly light. And this is an interesting experience because it's already enabled the hearing aid feature
5:58
So now I can hear my own voice and all of the low frequencies of my voice are sort
6:04
of filtered out. So that's interesting. So there's a CIRVAL app and it takes a moment to connect to the actual hearing aids
6:13
But here we go. So you can see that. it gives you individual controls on the left and right ear. So if you have a moderate hearing loss on your right ear, but only mild hearing loss on your left, you could just adjust it down, something like that. And there's a trick to getting each one to have a different volume. You can choose the style of ear tips, which helps it understand how to process things. But what I really like is scene mode. So now I'm in indoor mode
6:46
and it's giving me a lot more environmental sound, whereas I was earlier working at a very busy Starbucks
6:54
and it was really loud. And when I put these in and went into home mode
6:59
which is where I am now, it was really loud. It was really loud
7:04
So I switched to restaurant mode, and it just got rid of all of that background noise
7:10
and it was really interesting, because then I could really clearly hear the conversation
7:14
that the next table over, over probably shouldn't have been listening but it was a test of the hearing aid that's
7:19
that was that's my excuse you can have traffic or transportation mode and this gets rid of even
7:26
more background noise if you're on an airplane if you're on a bus if you're on a train if you're
7:32
in a carpool and the people are really noisy you can use that to get rid of some of that and then
7:38
conversation is the fourth version option you have here and so it there a lot going on And in fact I now hearing noises from my fridge that I wasn hearing before So it a really
7:52
interesting experience having these on because it makes everything what we in the audio world call
7:58
bright. So everything, you're hearing so much more of the upper frequencies because it's
8:04
getting rid of all the lower frequencies. And it's different to active noise control. That's a different
8:09
process. And more importantly, this also includes this hearing test. And I'm not going to go through it
8:17
with you because you probably don't want to watch me do that for five minutes. But the idea is that
8:22
it actually runs this hearing test and then it adjusts the actual software and processes that it's
8:31
doing based on your actual hearing. Now, Apple just announced that they're planning on someday doing that
8:37
with their AirPods Pro. But meanwhile, Sirval already is shipping this. Now, again, it's FDA registered
8:45
This doesn't mean it's an FDA approved hearing test or that it is a replacement for going
8:51
to an audiologist if you're having some serious issues. But again, this is from mild to moderate hearing loss
8:58
So once you get your profile or you can save it or you can input your audiogram, as they
9:04
call it from another program, and then you can go into profile and you can get
9:07
to things like checking to make sure you have the latest version of the firmware and the
9:13
user guide is right here. It's actually super convenient that we can just go into like function
9:18
introduction and it shows us how to do everything so you don't have to keep all the guides
9:24
But having said that, the guides are right here. So that's pretty handy. Now, I know one of the
9:30
things you want to do is you want to hear how the microphone pickup works. So let's go into
9:35
voice recording. And I'll go into voice and... Now what you're hearing is my voice is picked up
9:44
by the Serval Diamond X1 over-the-counter hearing aid. And it isn't picking up as much frequency
9:52
as my microphone is normally, but it's for a different purpose. And it is also getting rid of, listen
10:00
all the background noise. It is completely quiet when I'm not talking
10:04
So it is a different type of response than having some other type of AirPods or earbuds or something
10:12
but it is designed so that not only can you hear better with these in
10:18
but the person on the other end of a phone call you might be on or Zoom or Teams or meet or AirPlay, whatever
10:26
FaceTime, that's what I meant to say. They'll hear you better too, even if you're in a noisy environment
10:32
So let me switch back. And that's a lot of what I wanted to show you
10:38
I think that it's really cool. Oh, there's one more feature. Let me put these back in
10:42
Let's go back to the actual app because there's one more setting I wanted to show you
10:51
Let's see. How do we get there? We go to control and we go to settings
10:58
And then the cool thing here is this thing called directivity. So you can adjust your noise reduction
11:04
You can adjust the voice enhancement. But this directivity, if you turn it on, it makes them directional
11:13
So if you're surrounded by people, let's say you're at a cocktail party
11:17
And if you're surrounded by people, it will be able to tell who's in front of you
11:22
and give them more boost and try to minimize the sound of all the other people around you
11:27
which I think is a fantastic idea. And it's something really helpful
11:31
And then if you hearing if you hearing it and it just like really bright it really just not quite what your ears are enjoying and like then you can go and adjust this equalizer to have a little more bass
11:46
Maybe let's just bring up the base a little bit. Let's see, there we go
11:50
And maybe a little less treble. So we can adjust this. And again, remember, these are just a Bluetooth device
11:57
So I can also listen to music or use these for the audio on a
12:02
movie or TV with my television which has Bluetooth or with my computer whatever now I
12:09
will tell you if you've been watching movies and TV recently it's really hard
12:14
to understand people talking so a device like this is a really interesting way
12:19
to try to improve your understanding of what the heck is going on so that's
12:25
really everything I wanted to show you I think these are really really an
12:29
interesting option for people that are having some hearing loss. Again, if you're suddenly going from pretty darn good hearing to really
12:37
poor hearing, then you need to go and get some medical advice. But if you already know you have
12:42
some issues and you just have a harder time understanding what's going on around you, these can
12:48
really help. They will bring out the voices in a way that's really pretty remarkable. Now
12:54
here's a handy tip, is that a lot of these devices, it takes a little while for your brain to get
13:00
used to this new hearing. So as with most hearing aids, you want to wear them a little bit
13:06
the first day, a little bit more of the second day, a little bit more of the third day. So don't
13:11
just immediately wear them for six or seven hours because you might get a headache. But over the
13:15
course of a week or two, you can retrain your brain and your hearing to actually appreciate what
13:21
these are doing to give you better control and understanding of your environment and you will be a
13:27
happier person. And who doesn't want to be a happier person? person, right? So, okay, in the box, as I said, it has the different size ear tips. It is the charging cable. It has the charging case, and this is easy to put in your pocket. It also has some various instructions, and the company has a lot of great tutorials on their website and stuff, and it's all in the app, too. So really easy to work with. The only thing we need to talk about is the price. But before we get there, I'm going to ask you to go ahead and
14:00
click on that subscribe button to subscribe to my channel. You really appreciate when you do that
14:04
Go ahead and hit the bell icon so you get notifications of my new content too. And thumbs
14:10
up if this was a value and I certainly hope it was. Excellent. This, let me put one of these in
14:17
Let's see. And then the other one I can hold. So this is the Seerval Diamond X1
14:25
over-the-counter hearing aid comes in black or white and it is 30999 at sireval.com
14:35
But look around on their website because when I recorded this video, they had a pretty big promo going on that significantly dropped the price
14:44
These are a really interesting solution and definitely one worth checking out if you have mild to moderate hearing loss
14:52
So it will change your life. change the world around you and you'll be a happier person
14:58
And that sounds like a great thing to accomplish with a device
15:03
So that's all I got. I'll hope to catch you in my next video
