If you have an older MacBook Pro that uses the MagSafe-2 "T-Tip" connector (the silver one, not the white one) then you know getting a replacement charger from Apple can cost way too much. A better alternative is the Little Big MagSafe-2 MacBook Pro 60W Charger with built-in USB-3 and USB-C charging ports too. Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ gave the Little Big MacBook Pro Charger a try with his 2012-era MBP. Turns out it works great and has a number of features that make it a best in class product, as he explains. Check it on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2ooZNwM

A replacement charger that's better than the original? Let's check this out
0:03
Dave Taylor here and we have a wide variety of equipment here in the office
0:16
including some older Macintosh systems. Now, this is a circa 2012 MacBook Pro
0:23
and that means it uses a different charger connection than our 2019 MacBook Pro. Of course
0:29
these things have to change, right? Well, the problem is that you can lose chargers or you can end up
0:35
with your chargers just going south for various reasons, frayed wires, whatever. So, time for a replacement
0:41
Now, you can go back to Apple and you can get Apple MacBook Pro chargers, but they're at a pretty steep
0:47
premium. So, third parties. There are lots of third parties. And this is one of them. This is the
0:54
LB, Little Big, MacBook Pro charger, and it's pretty cool. So, as you can see here, this is what they call the T-tip. So this is a 60-watt MagSafe 2 T-Tip MacBook Pro charger. And this is for late 2012 to roughly 2016 MacBook Pro's. And super easy to work with. Obviously, I've got a lot of wires going on here, but that's because I needed power. So take the T-tip, you plug it into the MagSafe connector
1:24
Oh MagSafe I so sad that those no longer exist on MacBook Bros But this does exactly what you hope is that it stays on comes off with a pull nice and easy The light on the charger tip is orange because I charging it When it fully charged it turns green and then you know and you can pop it off
1:45
Easy enough. Now, the question is, how much power does it get
1:49
And for that, we can go into the actual hardware profile program
1:54
And you can see here in this close up that we're actually getting 60 watts of power
1:58
So that's perfect. That's exactly what we want. So that's going to be great
2:03
it's going to charge the computer whether I'm using it or not. But the real secret superpower of this little big charger is that in addition to having that T-tip 60-watt charger
2:15
it has two more charging plugs. How handy. Gee, Apple, you should pay attention to this
2:21
It's kind of nice to have one device that can do multiple things. So this offers, in addition to the 60-watt T-tip charger for your MacBook Pro
2:33
It offers a USB 3 connection, which is actually running Quick Charge 3
2:38
which means you'll get between 1.5 and 3 amps out of it
2:42
depending on the device you plug in. And it has a USBC charger, and that also pulls a maximum of 3 amps
2:49
So, of course, the first thing I thought was, I wonder if it'd be a USBC charger too
2:55
So pulled out our newer MacBook Pro. And with this one, I then used a USBC to USB
3:03
SBC cable plugged it into this charger unplugged it from the computer plugged it into the newer computer and then ran that same hardware profile and it only gets 15 watts So to be fair they don say this is like a super multi charger that works with everything
3:24
So this is not going to charge this computer. However long you leave it, 15 watts just ain't enough
3:29
But if you have devices that need USBC, that'll work fine. Which leads to the next question
3:35
All right, well, can it at least charge my iPhone? And even there, that would be useful, right
3:40
So I have a USB 3 to lightning connector. I plug it into my iPhone 11 Pro and it is charging
3:49
How nice is that? So there you go. I mean simple solid solution
3:55
It has a heat management system so it actually stays cool which is nice because a lot
3:59
of these chargers including Apple chargers by the way but a lot of these
4:03
rise can get pretty hot to the touch because they're doing a lot of stuff inside the
4:07
circuit in this box. But little big. has included over temp, over current, overload
4:13
and short circuit protection in the system. So theoretically, at least, if you get a power surge
4:19
or something weird happens to your electricity, then this thing's going to protect your computer
4:24
Very handy. Now, even in this situation, I really, really like that I can plug in my older MacBook Pro
4:32
and it's charging, as the light is telling me, and my phone is still charging
4:37
So double duty, it is really nice to have a device. that actually has multiple functions
4:42
And one other interesting thing is that they have a completely different kind of plug and power
4:48
So this is not that weird sort of corner thing that Apple does which actually is a pretty nice bit of engineering This is a little bit more standard but you take the wire you plug it in you good to go Obviously I can now unplug my phone
5:01
So here we are, and it works great. The spacing of the ports is such that you're not going to have any issues
5:08
depending on different devices that you're plugging in and stuff. Simple, solid solution, really one that I'm glad we have for our older MacBook Pro
5:18
because this just does what you really want every device to do, which is, solve the problem in a simple and straightforward way. And I can tell you right now, it's cold to the touch
5:27
Now, it's only been charging for a couple of minutes, but still, it's a nice feature
5:32
So, all this loves to talk about is the price, and it's actually reasonably priced
5:36
But before we get there, you, yes, you, please subscribe to my channel

Give me a like, leave a comment. Let me know what's going on. I appreciate all that feedback, and I respond to every single darn comment, which is actually a bit of a job
5:49
but that's okay so all right this is the little big mac pro
5:55
or macbook pro charger 60 watt magsafe 2 t tip with the extra
6:01
bonus ports so darn handy and it will cost you 399 at amazon.com
6:08
that's all I got we're going back to charging which means I'll catch you in my next video
