My wife was a sweetheart and gave me some way cool new toys for my birthday, a Motorola SLVR iPod cellphone, and the latest of the Motorola bluetooth headsets, the H700. They’re both darn cool, but I can’t figure out how to get them to pair. Can you help me out?
Well, we wouldn’t want you to be prevented from fully enjoying your birthday presents, so let me tell you the secret tip for getting the H700 into bluetooth pairing mode, arguably the trickiest part of the entire process.
First off, you want to have the H700 fully charged up and it’s probably good to have the Moto SLVR fully charged up too. Now turn off the H700 (the ring around the talk button should not be flashing blue every few seconds) then push the talk button for about five seconds, until the ring around it displays a purple color. Immediately let go of the button and flip open the tiny microphone extension. Now it’s in pairing mode and you can leave it while you fiddle with the SLVR.
On the SLVR cellphone, you want to push the “OK” button to get to your main tools area:
Choose Settings on the lower right (the wrench), then choose Connection:
Now you’ll be able to pick which type of connection you want:
You want bluetooth, of course, so pick that and you’ll be here:
Now you can specify that you want to add a new Handsfree device (even though, logically, you should go to Setup in my eyes):
I’ve paired my SLVR with my Toyota Prius already (that’s what “HANDS FREE” is) but we want a new device so I’ll select Look For Devices, at which point the SLVR cellphone will scan for available units in the bluetooth frequency spectrum and hopefully find your H700 bluetooth headset. Assuming it does, it’ll cheerily report the news:
If your SLVR doesn’t find the headset, I suggest that you run the scan another time or two. Also make sure that the H700 is still showing purple, not blue or flashing blue. That should be all you need to do!
Once the Moto SLVR has found the Moto H700 unit, you need to actually pair them, so don’t stop here. Select the H700 and you’ll be asked if you want to bond the two units:
You want to say “YES”, of course, at which point the SLVR will ask you for the bluetooth passkey of the H700, which, like all Motorola bluetooth headsets, is 0000. Enter it:
Choose “OK” to proceed to:
The phone has saved the pairing passkey, now it’ll disconnect and search for it again in regular connection mode:
Hopefully it’ll still find it, and verify the PIN:
And, if the bluetooth Gods are smiling upon you, it’ll succeed with:
Now, look at the H700. Notice it’s no longer in the purple “pairing” mode but has switched to the regular slowly flashing blue mode. You’re up, running and ready to enjoy the generosity of your wife’s gift!
Good luck.
when I use my Bluetooth, I can hear the caller but they cannot hear me. I’ve used my H700 with success in the past with other cell phones, and it isn’t very old. Do you have any suggestions?
thank you so much, a lot of friends always ask how to pair the headset. 🙂
Hi DAve,

Hey Dave,
I tried what you said and for some reason my Bluetooth and my strober (metro pc) phone wont pair up. They have been paired up before and I don’t know exactly how they unpaired but I have tried and tried about 10 times to pair them back and it won’t work…Please help me…I already have enough speeding, parking tickets and I really can’t afford a Cellphone while driving ticket…and for some reason that is when everyone wants to call for whatever stupid thing they might want to say or need from me…lol…I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Sincerely,
Rose

Thanks Dave Taylor. I have a new LG VX5400 and a Moto H700 that I found laying around my house, and could never figure out how to pair the two.
I found a manual for the bluetooth headset and still could not understand how it worked.
Well, thanks to you, I now have it working. Pretty cool. I’m not a huge supporter of these new flashing headsets, but it is pretty cool to be able to talk without holding the phone.

Phew! Thank you SOO much. i’ve been googling all over the internet trying to get an answer to this question. It didn’t work out at first, but I’ve finally figured it out. Thanks again!
Man, I searched every website I could think of for a users manual for my H700. I of course misplaced mine. I just so happend to stumple upon this question on a search link and BAM! got my answer. You are a blessing. Trust me. It was almost impossible to handle business having a phone stuck to the side of my head. Very clear and simple instructions. Now if you could just create simple instructions to get through life, LOL 🙂 Thanks Again
urm… is just that my SLVR does not hav a bluetooth link when i go to the connection part…
Thank… thank you… thank you. I too, have one of these devices and was seriously contemplating throwing it out on the Jersey Turnpike. The only thing that stopped me was that damn State Trooper in my rearview mirror. The Bluetooth Gods are smiling today!!
Thanks so much for all these very easy to follow steps!! They helped me getting my bluetooth to work when I was almost hopeless!! Thanks thanks thanks!!
Thank you so much!! I ordered this bluetooth off Ebay from China…I very skeptical about doing it but did it anyway and just as I thought, it came, but with a charger that didn’t fit and no instructions whatsoever…luckily my son’s charger fit and I found your instructions and it works fine…Thanks again and I saved you to my Favs just in case I don’t get you again when I do a Yahoo search!
Oh thank you so much. I had the hardest time figuring this out since I bought the headset online and it didn’t come with a manual. I do have one question though. Everytime someone calls me when I am using the Bluetooth, my ringtone changes to Continental and I can’t change it back until I disconnect the headset. Do you know how I can fix this? I am using it with a Motorola L6. THANKS!!!
thank you so so so much. ive been trying to figure this for like more than a week now! you are more than a moto instruction manual! ha ha ha! thanks to you!
Thank you so much for this! I have a Motorola Z3 and have never been able to move the H700 from my old phone on to this one. Now I’ve done it – thanks again!
Thanks so much for the post and the detailed instructions. My devices un-paired themselves and to get them to re-pair was not as easy as the first time. Your instructions made it possible.
thank you for the instuctions on how to connet my H700 to my phone, I traded headsets with my son and it took me forever to get the two to pair, I still did not end up with a purple light, but I still finally paired after a couple of tries.
