I’m trying to play my music CD on my PC because I need to make a tape of it to send to the copyright office. So I’m running the headphones out of my laptop into the line IN on my little boombox and I’m making the tape, right, but guess what? Every time I click on a frickin’ hyperlink in Internet Explorer there’s this huge “click!” coming out onto the tape! How rude is that?
I can certainly see where this would be darn annoying to you. The question is: how do you disable the sounds in Internet Explorer!
The solution is to change a setting in Windows itself, not within Internet Explorer, however, so it’s kinda tricky to figure out where you need to make the change.
Go to Start –> Settings –> Control Panels and choose Sounds and Audio Devices. Now click on the Sounds tab and you’ll see this:
Scroll down in the Program events window and you’ll find the category Windows Explorer. Remember, now, that Windows Explorer basically is Internet Explorer, so you can either disable all the sounds in this category or identify which specific event produces the sound. I’m not sure, but I think it’s Start Navigation. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us through the comments?
Here’s a synthesized graphic that shows you all the Windows Explorer events:
You can play the assigned sound by clicking the “>” button, or you can turn off that particular sound by assigning it the value of “(None)”.
Hope that helps you copy your audio data successfully!
Concerning:
“I’m not sure, but I think it’s Start Navigation. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us through the comments?”
Yeah, yeah, yeah! That is the one to disable.
Great help! Thanks!
Note: and I am a Mac OS X 10.4.8 user using Windows XP Pro from the awesome Parallels Desktop.
