Been in a meetup group for single parents for a long time, suddenly it’s become really weird and I want to be done with it. How do I quit or leave a Meetup group?
I’ve been involved with Meetup.com for a long time and even run a number of meetup groups myself, a responsibility I take pretty seriously on behalf of the members. Even with tight controls, thought, I know what you mean about how groups can evolve and change over time as different people join and try to move it in different directions.
Before you bail on the group, you might want to send a note to one of the organizers to see what they think about the changes. But then again, if you’re done with a meetup group, you’re done.
If you are ready, here’s how to find a specific group and resign…
To start, go to the main menu on the home page, accessible by clicking on your own profile pic:
Choose “See all your groups” if the group isn’t showing up on your short list.
You’ll get to a screen with lots of tiles for groups, each that looks similar to this one:
Notice that it shows how many members are in the group, which can be an interesting reminder, particularly if you’ve been a group for long time! Click anywhere on the image for the group and you’ll get to a page with lots more information about the group and its members, likely with a big banner across the top full of options and settings like this:
None of those are what you want, though, which can be a bit confusing. In fact, you’ll need to click on the “My profile” link to bring up the group menu:
Now you can see what to do here.
Choose “Leave this group”, as shown, and it’ll ask for confirmation:
You can add a message to the group organizers if you’re so inclined, or just leave silently, either is fine.
Click on “Leave the Group” and you’ll get a confirmation:
The set of keywords, uh, interests shown here are those specified by the group you just quit, but if one of them is of particular interest, click on it and you’ll see other meetup groups that have the same keyword. A nice way to find new groups, perhaps with better members.
Or… just click “Done” and you’re out. That’s it.
Please help! I have left some of my Meetup groups and yet I continue to get notices from them of upcoming meetings. How do I stop this? When I go to my profile and see my groups, I do NOT see these groups. I even contacted the leader of one who says I am not on their roster anymore. This is happening to me on more than one group. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
That’s very odd. Have you tried sending email to Meetup customer service to seek assistance? Are you sure you didn’t sign up with more than one email address or account too?
I really want leave the Meet UP group now. All the the meeting places are quite faraway
from where I live. Please help me how to do it.
Thanks a lot.

Stephanie, log in to your meetup account, then go to your groups and quit ’em, as detailed in the tutorial above.
I am looking for a way to check off a list of groups and leave all at once (I thought there used to be a way to do this). I belong to SO many groups that I am no longer interested in and it is tedious to do them one at a time. Is there a way??
Thanks so much Dave. It was also taking me ages to work out how to leave a group, and I had some very outdated groups that I had not been to which I wanted to leave. Thanks!
i want out of meetup why is it so difficult to do please remove me from the cite enirely!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU for this explanation & tutorial. I was for sure trying to leave a group for 30 minutes, & getting nowhere. Appreciated!
