I love Twitter and want to follow more interesting people and organizations. How can I find a list of popular Twitter accounts?
That’s a great question and my first and immediate answer is that you should absolutely follow me on Twitter as a good starting point! Just check out @DaveTaylor.
Now that you’ve done that, turns out that there are hundreds of really interesting people, companies, organizations and sporting teams using Twitter to broadcast their messages and communicate with their constituents, fans and customers. Some engage and have discussions, while others use it as purely a one-way channel, pushing out their sales messages or political positions on the topics of the day.
Turns out that Twitter itself has recommendations that are just a click or two away.
To start, look on the right side of your main Twitter window:
See the link on the lower right? Click on “Popular accounts”…
As you can see, there are lots of categories including “Music” and “Sports”, as shown here.
Scroll down further and you’ll see more interesting categories:
Learn more about the 52 government agencies on the Twitter popular list by clicking on “Government”.
Now you’ll see more information about each of the accounts:
Want to follow Prime Minister David Cameron from the UK? No worries, just click on “Follow” and you’re good to go.
Good luck and I hope this helps make your Twitter feed considerably more interesting!
