I’m a big fan of Google Calendar except I am a bit stumped about how to create a monthly event that repeats based on the day of the week. My parenting group meets the first Thursday of each month, but I can’t see how to capture that in Google Calendar. Is it possible?
While I generally have found Google Calendar easy to use, I too wish that the repeating events were a wee bit easier to understand. I know how to do what you’re talking about, however, so let me just step you through how I just recently added an every-first-Monday conference call with SupportSpace to my calendar…
First step is to log into your Google Calendar account and click on “Create Event”. Title the event and point it at the next upcoming meeting so you have a good starting point, then choose “Monthly” from the Repeats menu:
Now a new set of options appears:
Here’s where I get confused: to have something pegged to a specific day of the month (e.g. “first Thursday”) you need to select Repeat By: day of the week. Click that and suddenly you’ll see what you hope in the hint box:
That’s all there is to it. Now add a location and description and you should be in digital calendar nirvana! 🙂
The screenshots are not visible. Tried it with Google Chrome 25.0.1364.172 and Firefox 19.0.2.
Why would you want to use an external API when the calendar has a built in method? It seems like the API would just clog it up. No reason to use it.
you could always use one of the cool API apps like calgoo (www.calgoo.com) to do this as well.
food for thought
