Hi Mr Dave, I would to get some help from you on how to set my
Twitter account profile picture from my iPhone. Can that be done?
In the early days, mobile apps that let you access major sites were the less-able stepchild of the company, letting you do a small subset of the most popular actions but never quite as capable as visiting the site via either the company’s Web site or through its primary Windows or Mac software. Twitter was like that with its initial Android and iOS program, but as the years have passed and the Twitter developers have kept working at it, they’ve created an app that’s extraordinarily capable and definitely able to let you easily change your profile photo directly from your smartphone!
On the iOS side, the best move is probably to take a bunch of selfies or have someone else take pictures of you until you have one that you really like and are happy to share with the online world at large. That’s necessary groundwork.
Now with that, open up the Twitter app on your iPhone 5, 6 or 6s, it’ll look like this:
On the lower right corner is an icon labelled “Me”.
Tap on it to get to your profile information on Twitter:
Lots to see — and notice you can get to some analytics about how your tweets are doing with the button on the top that looks like a wiggly line coming out from two perpendicular lines — but let’s stay focused here.
Oh, before we go further, you can find me on Twitter as @DaveTaylor. Please follow me!
Right, back to topic. Tap on your profile photo on the top left of this screen and you’ll be able to edit your picture, which shows up kinda, well, big on screen:
The key to pay attention to is the Edit button on the lower left.
Tap on “Edit” to proceed and now you’ll be at the main profile edit screen:
Somehow I think that should show up one tap earlier, but I didn’t design the Twitter interface so we’ll work with what is, not what should be. 🙂
At this point, tap on the spot where your profile photo would be and you’ll be able to either take a photo or choose one from your camera library:
I’ll take a profile photo, even though the lighting’s awful where I’m writing this particular tutorial.
Once you’ve taken the photo, you’ll be able to crop it to work for Twitter, which wants a square image. The crop box is draggable, and the image can be zoomed with pinch gestures:
Click “Choose” to pick the photo and it’ll be your new Twitter profile photo.
Sort of:
The reason I say “sort of” is because of the button on the top right: Save.
Forget to tap that and your changes will be lost and no-one else on Twitter will see your new portrait masterpiece.
So tap on “Save” to make sure that your new photo is saved on Twitter, not just in your app.
And that’s it. Done.
Now, don’t like your new profile photo or picture? It’s easy enough to change it again, as you can see!
