You earlier wrote about how to check in to a location in FourSquare / Swarm on an Apple Watch, saying that if it picks the wrong one you’re out of luck. You’re wrong. You need to force-press the check-in button and you can change locations!
I’m pretty sure that the latest update to the FourSquare / Swarm application on the Apple Watch is what added the ability for you to indicate that the check-in location it’s picked isn’t where you actually are, but whether or not that’s correct, you are absolutely right that if Swarm on the Apple Watch picks the wrong place, you can correct it!
The trick is the force-press feature and as with a number of other Apple Watch programs, there’s really no way to know that it’s available without experimentation, which tells me that good user interface design would be for Apple to introduce a tiny “force-press available” icon or even tiny dot somewhere on the screen to let us know it’s enabled. The idea of just poking around until you find an app that supports the feature certainly seems dumb.
To demonstrate the feature, I’m going to check in at a local coffee shop in Swarm on my Apple Watch Sport Edition. Here’s what I see:
Which would be great if I was actually at Sports Authority. But I’m not.
A quick force-press (a tap, but with more enthusiasm) reveals a hidden menu:
Aha! Tap on “Change place” (you can use a normal tap at this point) and it shows a list of nearby locations:
That’s better, because I’m at the Brewing Market.
A tap on the correct location and it becomes available as a check-in spot:
Now a single tap and I’m checked in:
Once you know that it supports force-press, it’s all quite easy. If you don’t realize that, well, then you’re just frustrated by Swarm picking the wrong place. 🙂
