Just read that Kickstarter had its account data stolen by hackers. Ungood. How do I change my password before these criminals get into my Kickstarter account?
The email I got from Kickstarter seemed to suggest that there was more worry about the pipeline between Kickstarter and Facebook, and the company indicated it had reset everyone’s connection between the two. Which is kinda odd because you think that they’d encourage us users to change our account passwords and that as long as Facebook remains secure that there’d be no issue. Hmm… definitely odd.
Kickstarter itself, however, is a pretty straightforward site as there’s not much it’s actually doing. In fact, I’d like to see it become a bit more sophisticated with searches, automated searches via email and a memory of what campaigns I’ve seen and which I haven’t for any given category. I’m sure that I miss campaigns that I’d back because I can’t find them.
But let’s stay focused. You’re right, Kickstarter had a data breach and it’s just smart to change your account password after you hear about something like that.
So here’s how you do it. Log in to your Kickstarter account, then click on your tiny profile icon on the top right. A menu appears:
As the arrow indicates, choose “Settings” to tweak your individual account settings, then look along the top left to see the three primary categories of settings:
You’ll want to choose “Account”.
Now, about halfway down, you’ll see:
Click on it and you know what to do from there. Make it something very different from your current password and good luck!
