I was looking at my taskbar in Windows 8 today and realize that there are a number of system icons on the right side that are just taking up space since they’re not giving me useful or important information. My PC’s plugged into the office network, for example, so the “network status” notification icon is pointless: it’s always the very same state, ON. How do I clean up my notifications area of the Win8 taskbar?
Okay, I accept that without a third party add-on I’m never going to see my beloved Start Menu again. I can adjust. But is there at least a simple way to get to my full app or application list from the Start Screen in Win8?
I have a Canon Pixma MG5220 color printer [actually it’s what Canon calls an “all-in-one printer” -DT] and all of a sudden it’s popping the error code B200, showing the message “Printer error has ocurred. Unplug the power cord and contact the service center.” on the tiny screen. Windows 7 has no idea there’s anything wrong when I try to print. It just doesn’t work. What does “B200” mean and how do I fix it?
Hi Dave. I’m running Windows 8 and it’s a constant headache. Literally. Everything on screen, all the icons, the text in folder listings, everything’s just too darn small on my screen. Is there some way to make all the icons, labels, and other stuff bigger?
I’m using Windows 8 and find most of the apps easy to work with after some fiddling, but I’m still a bit stymied by Windows Maps (or is it Xbox Maps or Maps 8, or something?) It’s cool but I can’t figure out how to enter addresses nor can I get directions. But I know it can do both. Can ya help a brutha out with some basics for Win8 Maps?
Oh happy day that lets me get Windows 8.1 — see How to Update to Windows 8.1 Preview — and start to step away from the mess that is Windows 8’s Metro UI. If I wanted a touch-tablet experience for my OS, I’d buy a tablet. But I’m on a desktop PC, just trying to get my job done. Which is all well and good, but now that I have Windows 8.1, I don’t actually see anything new or improved. Bah! A pox on Redmond! More seriously, how can I log in directly to my Desktop instead of to that cursed Start screen?
Now that I’m running Windows File History on my Win8 system [see: Set up Windows File History] it’s all moving along smoothly, but I’m missing the other half of the picture: How do I recover a lost, deleted or overwritten file from the File History archive?
