How do I upgrade my Amazon Kindle Fire?

July 17, 2012 / Dave Taylor / Kindle & Nook Help / 1 Comment

I’ve had my Kindle Fire since they first came out and it just struck me that there might well be some updates to the operating system firmware (software? what is it called on the Fire?) on the device. How do I check for a firmware update on the Kindle?

Check out a Kindle ebook from the public library?

April 2, 2012 / Dave Taylor / Apple iPad Help, Kindle & Nook Help / 4 Comments

I heard from a neighbor that the local public library now lets you check out books on a Kindle or iPad. Terrific: my dad’s not in very good health and would greatly appreciate being able to browse and download books, and since he reads really fast, even if it’s just a seven-day loan, that’d work fine. How do I check out Kindle ebooks from my local public library?

How do I loan someone a Kindle ebook?

January 30, 2012 / Dave Taylor / Kindle & Nook Help / No Comments

I really like my Kindle Fire and have found that I’m reading more now that it’s so easy to carry even the longest book with me. Some of the books I read are okay, but there’s an occasional ebook that’s just terrific. When that happens, I’d like to loan it to my Dad so he can sample it and either read it — he’s a quick reader — or buy it for himself. I remember reading that one of the features of the Kindle is that you can loan people ebooks, but I have no idea how to do it. Can you explain?

Can I read Kindle ebooks on my Apple MacBook or Windows PC?

January 21, 2012 / Dave Taylor / Kindle & Nook Help, Mac & MacOS Help, Windows PC Help / 2 Comments

Every time I go to Amazon.com I see that the Kindle version of a book I want to buy is less expensive than the print edition. Coupled with it being more environmentally friendly (no shipping, no printing, no hassle with it taking up space on my shelf) I’d like to switch over. But I don’t want to buy an actual Kindle device. Is there a way to read Kindle ebooks on my Mac or PC system?

Transfer books from Kindle to Kindle app on iPad?

January 17, 2012 / Dave Taylor / Kindle & Nook Help / 4 Comments

I have a Kindle DX that I really like and use to read books. I also have an Apple iPad and occasionally want to pick up my book and continue it on the larger iPad screen. Problem is, when I buy a book at Amazon, it asks which device I want it to appear on and when I pick my Kindle, it doesn’t show up on the iPad. How do I have it appear on both or transfer it from the Kindle DX (or Kindle Fire, when I get one) to my iPad’s Kindle app?

How do I copy photos onto my Kindle Fire?

December 19, 2011 / Dave Taylor / Kindle & Nook Help / 9 Comments

I’m enjoying my new Kindle Fire, even if some of the industry pundits are saying it’s a fail when compared to the iPad. I don’t care, I’m a Kindle fan. Anyway, I’m wondering if you can offer up some tips on how to copy photos to my Fire so I can share them with my friends?
