Why doesn't Outlook consistently show pictures in my messages?

Dave, I'm confused about how Outlook is working for me. At work when pics are attached they show in the body of the email. At home I have to open each one separately. I have looked and looked but can't find where to make them show up automatically without having to open each one. Can you tell me where to find this setting?

Dave's Answer:

This one's tough because there are so many variables that aren't specified.

First possibility: is your home mail client the same as the one you're running at work? Quite possible that's how it handles embedded pictures, espectially if the message came directly from the same source (i.e. not forwarded) and the pictures show up as attachments.

Or, perhaps your home mail client is protecting you from embedded pictures? Check for security settings: Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird and others now don't show pictures by default. If that's the case, then you might simply need to disable that feature or perhaps add the sender to a "safe senders" list.

Third possibility, the one I think is most probable, is that you're forwarded the mail from work to home? If so, the mail client at work either just does it that way, or you received the mail as HTML or Rich Text Format, and it ends up being forwarded as "plaintext". The later can't include pictures within messages, hence the images would have to be converted to attachments.

But that's all guessing. It boils down to the email clients involved at this point. Sorry I can't be of more help.

My thanks to Leo Notenboom for his expert advice on this topic.

Question:
I cleaned my mouse the other day, and somehow in the process of handling the mouse my toolbars for Outlook Express have changed from one line into 2 lines. I have tried the custom toolbar function to restore the one-line feature. I have also tried the "restore defaults" function. Neither works. Is there any way to restore the top tool bar to one line?

At 72 years age I don't have that much "devotion" to continually SEARCH for an answer to my problem. I am hoping that you will do better than Fred Langa/others in replying. I currently am using MS Outlook2000 SR-1 V9x. Receive all sorts of email with embedded pictures of which I cannot print normally on first pass thru the printer (txt is aok)(printer is CANON PIXMA iP4000)(tiresome to have to individually select and paste each photo in photo program). Attachments are aok. I know how to get attachments to print. Would appreciate any kind words of wisdom to solve this problem. Respectfuly yours, Bob Cashon

I could not view pictures in some emails. I followed what you said and added the sender to the safe senders list and Presto. Thanks
