I, unlike this person, know my zip code and all other information besides the answer to my recovery question. I requested a new password sent to my alternate email, but it does not come. As a test, I also requested the ID to be sent to me (which I obviously remember) at my alternate email. This came. So why wont the new pass come? I have written to yahoo but they are unhelpful. I have a computer that I am still logged on to yahoo on, but it requests for my password to actually do anything and I am helpless. What should I do?

Dave...this is the worst advice i've ever seen. Listen, my yahoo account was hijacked, and the personal information was changed so i could NOT access the account password reset. After many many months, yahoo finally reset it for me. This involved me faxing proof of who i was, address, etc. Then 2 mos. later, it's hijacked again (with a new, more difficult password).

Your reflections on this subject are inadequate. Stick to what you know. :)

I also had my Yahoo hacked. Someone actually added a line into a mail I sent, which means he/she was able to operate within the mail at the same time I was. Now, I've changed my password, logged out, logged in, changed it again, etc. But still fear nags. Some very personal mails there, potentially very hurtful for me and loved ones. Can I be at ease?

I tried for a couple days to recover my account through the automated password recovery tool, but it would not accept my personal information. I finally found a number for Yahoo Customer Care - 408-349-1572 and called them. In about 10 minutes after verifying my user name, real name, date of birth, and zip code, they were able to issue me a new password directly on the phone. However, when I did log back in I had recieved a password change verification in my email from previously. I don't know how or why someone would want to hack a freemail account but it is a royal pain when you face losing your contact lists, and stored messages as well as an ID you have been using for 10+ years to send and recieve mail.

I had a similar problem, when my colleague (who knew my password) changed my secret question / password.. I had my important data in it, and wandered about calling Yahoo just about everyday. They just wont listen....Then i went to this hackers site.. called HireHackers (cannot give you the link for obvious reasons) .. Dont know how they did it, but a few hrs later, they sent me a screenshot of my Inbox..I subsequently paid them their charges..and got my password back.. !! Ironical...I had to spend..$200..to get the password of my OWN FREE EMAIL ACCOUNT .. :-(

Interesting read here, I also lost a free webmail account that I had for several years. after writing yahoo I eventualy got a real person that ask me to answer my secret question and would send me my password!
I rely was happy for a few days, and then after another week or so I was getting the automated reply again advising me that I would hear from someone within 48 hours I finally got a reply from another yahoo support person instead of the automated reply, but they did not know what I wanted assistance with. I quickly replied with the long email that they had replied to me with and pointed out the top line of the email that stated my request for my password to be reset along with pointing out all the pertinant info also contained in the email and enlarged the font on pertinant lines so that the person could read it since it already contained all the info.
then after a few days I was again being generously assisted by the automated reply advising me that I would soon hear from someone (maybe Terry Semel!)within 48 hours or never depending on the outcome of the party at David and Jerry's office.
after a month or so of corespondance I noticed that my account profile no longer comes up, only a page stateing that the account does not exist.
today I am thinking of sending another email to support. in doing so I stumbled upon this site and decided to leave my edifying tale with the rest.
maybe I'll skip the yahoo email thing today and go surfin instead :)

Anyhow... the site asked me for yahoo password twice and redirected me to the MyPhotos site..
I thought it was odd but did not pay attention as it was busy.

Anyhow... I went for lunch and came back to find that my account password was changed. I tried to get back the password but I do not remeber when i had last updated thee address/zip (India/US, which city etc)

Yesterday night, I too made a mistake... I gave my password to a site in GeoCities.
An old friend of mine messaged me with a website(http://www.geocities.com/all_my_new_pics/) which pretty much looked like yahoo with yahoo logo on it. The URL also had yahoo on it, it could be dummy parameter also, i didn't closely look into it.

I created my yahoo account long time back, and i have never faced issues like forget password, etc., so i'm not sure what info. i gave while opening yahoo account.

the address i have posted is not the one i need password for. I have moved a total (not estimate) of 7 times the last year, and have updated yahoo about twice... I can not remember the zipcode and an ex of my signifigant other had changed our password. the address is goth_stoner_skater666 there were a lot of personal address and such. we know the secret question and birthday on the account just not the zip can you help?

I did the same mistake of clicking on the fake yahoo URL. I have been emailing yahoo from the alternate email address but they are just not helping me unless I tell them the answer of the secret question. 2 days back when i logged into my yahoo account, suddenly i found that i am unable to login in using my original password. I tried to recover it but no use. I remember my personal info but i dont remember the hint answer. Also, the alternate e-mail for my yahoo id was a rediff id which also had the same password and i am unable to login into that rediff id also now. BOTH MY IDS ARE INACCESSIBLE. i tried hard but it's just no use.

I tried to reset my own Yahoo password on purpose, but never received the new password, despite trying several times and checking all of my other e-mail addresses for the password message. I finally requested my Yahoo ID from them (which I already knew) so I could verify whether I had listed the alternate address I thought I had, and sure enough, it said the address I listed was on file, and that message came through right away, so I've definitely been checking the right e-mail address, to no avail (and I turned all spam blocking off, too, just in case the new password message was getting blocked).

It does not matter if I remembered my secret answer because they don't give me a secret question to answer. When I tried to contact customer support, the automated message they sent back asking for more information said I had to give them the question AND the answer!! What's up with that?! I have had this account for 8 or 10 years. I certainly don't know what secret question I chose, if I ever did choose one, but if they asked me the question I am certain I would know the answer!

At any rate, I sent all my information to them via their customer service form (which they make pretty hard to find) 3 days ago. They just sent an automated response, telling me that if I still couldn't solve the problem myself I could forward them some more information. Sigh. So I did that, and it's been about 36 hours with no reply so far. From what I'm reading online, this may take days of phone calls to fix, if it can be fixed at all, and it makes no sense. It's horrible to lose access to an account I've had for this many years, with tons of personal mail saved, an old Geocities website I managed through that account (which will be stuck online as it is forever if this is not resolved), and 12 or 14 Yahoo groups I was/am subscribed to. From my own experience and several of the comments here, it seems to me that Yahoo has a glitch in which new passwords are not being sent to people's alternate e-mail addresses they way they should be.

if a hacker hacks a yahoo account he only needs change the pw and the zipcode ...... so if the owner tries to get his account back he needs to know that current zipcode before he/she even gets to his/her secret question .... so whats the use of a secret question ???? The fact is Yahoo is buggy. Someone changes the zip code, you are doomed. The alternate email address has no use. Yahoo needs to shut down its mail service and learn from gmail which is way lot better.

There is no use of date of bitrh and security answer if someone hacked your yahoo password, because hacker immediately changes your Zip code, password and alternet email address with the help of your password.So, yahoo is making you fool.Zip code should not be changable with the help of password only then all the users who know security answer can get access up to the security question.On the other hand, it is not possible to try all the zip codes and make correct guess.There is no use of alternet email address also when your password is hacked because hackers are not such a fool that they first change password and then alternet email address. They first change alternet email address and then password so that you could not be informed by yahoo that your pasword has been changed.Therefore, yahoo can't help you if someone hacked your password.I suggest you to creat a new yahoo account.

If we rememebered the answers and alternate emails, we wouldn't be coming to you and asking questions. I agree that in some cases people who want to steal IDs would come to you and ask you to get passwords for them. But there could be other things come in considerations, mails in their inbox, their old passwords, contacts in their messenger. Because rest of the information might have been changed the by the one who hacked.

Im a Victim of a phishing scam the hacker change the account information where I could not ever hope to retreive my account So Dave you are right the hacker knows that yahoo is not going to give out a new password or help a innocent victim of a hacking scam out of fear of someone trying to beat there system. To make this short and sweet if your hack in to your out of luck. I went to MSN and bought there upgraded email service. Your comments seem very much like cut downs to those who have been hacked. The fact is that Yahoo Messenger, which many people use, has so many security holes in it that it is, in my opinion, one of the easiest hacked Messenger programs out there. I use it, but I too have had trouble with hackers and my account.

I dont give out my information, and even when I knew my information and entered it correctly Yahoo delayed in sending me a password as occured with the other person. So, just because a person gets hacked does not mean that they did not enter their information so that they could keep up with it. Lets face it, when you have had an account as long as I have, sometimes things change in your life. And you might perhaps forget some of the information.

However, I do believe that Yahoo itself should find a way to create a more user friendly customer service department. When you are using your yahoo email account for important emails, which I can savely say I do not advise any longer after the all but satisfactory support I recieved, it is important that you recieve support in a timely matter. I feel there should be some sort of a provision to help those that may perhaps forget their information. It would definately subside some of the issues that, as you see, many useres are having. Some of these issues do not even involve someone losing their information, but their account being hacked. If Yahoo improved their customer service to a point where they could help those whose accounts were hacked and their information changed it would be an extreme improvement over being up the creek without a paddle.

I agree with you that if there are frequent stories about Yahoo being hacked and people's accounts being hijacked, it's really up to Yahoo to deal with the situation and come up with a different identity verification system. For one thing, I'm still baffled why so few sites let you pick your OWN security question. When the choices are where I was born, my Mom's maiden name or the last four digits of my SSN, those aren't that hard to research or guess.

Having said that, I really feel for the people who have their accounts stolen and wish I could help, but as I said earlier, there's no way for me to differentiate between a legitimate request and someone trying to "social engineer" their way into the account of a friend / enemy / colleague / family member / spouse/ significant other, whatever.

and so ( assuming you can help me), I can prove to you without doubt that I am the original owner of my yahoo account by providing you with DETAILED information abt my mailbox - including personal folders, contacts list people, mailing lists/friends/forums from whom I regularly receive mails, as if you think of it, how will I know all this information if I am asking your help to hack someone else's account. And I do think this can prove my authenticity more than any secret information as that can easily be changed by the hacker.

I changed my password like two times... but when I changed it the last time I started to get problems when I wanted to sign in, it kept telling me that I had the password wrong. And the problem is that my alternative email was one from netscape xxxx@netscape.net, and now they changed it to xxxx@aim.com, so I will never get my password again!!! :(

No being able to choose one's own hint is a big weak point. I could hack every X I ever had (like if I cared that is. Becuase I am attentive I remember their first pet, when they used created name, why they chose that id name, where.

Those hints are the way in usually .. but once even a single piece of info is changed.. how can the owner reclaim it?
Even if you know it was an X? The time apart has made new memories that can key their hint. Unles it is fav food, first pet or family info.
I know it was my former spouse by the breaking of the hint and knowing my location when the account was opened for zip code.
And I hate my new alternative..reel christmasfish..
because I was THE original Christmasfish!
My other missing names Truechidna & purrfctnknosit
are also reflective upon paid service names.
Thank goodness only one account has about a year of IMPORTANT mail. I have had aol since 1993 so I have continuity there. Tehy are an evil empire that holds my mail in proprietary software..

Yahoo needs better identifiers and maybe asking tour alt email if ther was on? Yahoo was supposed to be my pinch hit alternate if I had collapse of finnace and needed a free service name my family could find. (I move a lot for businces and military)
Who can you even complain to? the 6 6 2 step phone menu to a person that may or may not speak the same language as you?

GOSH! Yahoo lied to me. I just had my email hi-jacked. I can't access my mail. I purposely put the wrong b-day in to keep from being broken into, and it backfired on me. I can't give yahoo a b-day to match, so they won't let me in. I told them my secret question AND answer. They said I need to give them the last 8 digits of the credit card I had YYYYEEEAARS ago used and no longer have. I had the last 4 digits, just not the last 8. They would not help me. I have important info from the law school I'm trying to enter and irreplaceable pictures of my parents and children. I told Yahoo I would give them any info they wanted, but without the b-day, which I set wrong 10 years ago, or a credit card #, which I got rid of 5 years ago, they would NOT help me. I'm am furious. I was hi-jacked and they don't care.

Comment #2...Oops, forgot to tell you HOW Yahoo lied to me. I asked if they had any other complaints of being locked out from mysteriously changed passwords. They told me NO problems. I talked to 3 reps. and have the reference #s for 2 of the calls. They assured me this was not a problem with Yahoo. The problem IS with Yahoo. The bottom line is that I did not change my password. I was logged into the yahoo mail. Suddenly, when I clicked on Inbox, it asked me the password and even after giving correct password, it's not validating my account. Hi, Last weekend some one hacked in to my yahoo and has surely changed Zip code and password. It wont let me login. In less than 24 hrs my yahoo account was gone. I remember loggin on to a geocities site, but dont remember exactly what it was. Is there any solution that I can get yahoo id back. I remmeber the persinal info, but I guess the hacker has chnaged that too.

I have also had a yahoo account since 1999 and as everyone here tried logging in and can't. I tried to request new password but I put in my id and ticked that I have not used credit card and the next page says we have no more information for you. I looked up my profile and its saying not available so it seems for whatever reason its been deleted or something.

I did provide an alternative email to send passwords to but its useless if the accounts been deleted or details changed. This has happened to many people

When I created this id I remember being new to the internet and not liking the idea to input my true name address and postcode, like thousands of others I put fake post code etc and didn't keep records thinking I wouldn't need them. All those years ago and computer novice like many others did not forsee the consequences so I think it's a bit harsh to be so heavy on some of us. Even though I did provide the alternative email as its most probably been hacked and changed I can't do much about that can I, If yahoo kept records of what details were, are and any changes kept recorded it would be helpfull.

I am surprised though at people putting thier password into geocity etc I wouldn't put my password into any program. God only knows how mine has been hacked coz I haven't even used it in months and months and even then I only logged in to see if it was still working, I didnt use the email with it or any programs groups or links. Yahoo don't delete accounts either if they arent logged into for a while so its not that. I also have another account older than this one thats still working.

I would say it proves you shouldnt ever use yahoo for credit card stuff or anything important, banking etc. My account was just for chatting and very rarely so I was lucky. I'm glad I didnt input my true personal details anyway because whoever got in there still wont know them.

I'm finding yahoo very annoying at the moment, I can get my yahoo ID sent to a alt email i have no access to anymore using the right information, but i can't get my password reset because it says the same info i used, to get the id sent to my alt email is wrong.
Any ideas would be appreciated, but either way sending to yahoo to get it reset(aus to the us) and I'm just hoping that the secret question and answer is right cause i've forgotten it.

It is a tragedy that Yahoo doesn't care it's customers cry. It's actually the duty of Yahoo to stop any Phissing sites upon the first complaint and find the curlpit and reverse the passwords it changed. And they can find those machine generated passwords easily.

I lost it thru the all_my_new_pics geocities site and it was usual for yahoo to ask password unnecessarily in between page transitions.

I can prove my identity as my photo is still saved in my geocities webpage and my profile.. And my profile contains enough information that can positively identify with my passport.
I think I need some serious legal move here.

2 weeks ago, I went into YM, and a mssg. came in saying I'd abused the YM Program, and if I wanted to keep my account active to click on the link below. I clicked on the link, and have been shut out of Yahoo ever since. I emailed numerous times, and phoned Customer Care for Yahoo, in California 3 times. (I am in Northern Canada) I am so frustrated with Yahoo. They won't do anything to help me, only tell me to send in info, which I already have sent in numerous times! So, is there a way to convince a yahoo representavie to mail someone a new password to the accounts alternative email if that person doesn't know the zip code?
That's my case.. I got a mail on my alternative email saying someone changed my yahoo password and the zip code i entered in registration is something random. Is there a way to change the password and mail it to the alternative email? (presuming the hacker didn't change the alternative email already).
I am willing to provide any validation that i am not a hacker. For example: a yahoo representative can mail some contacts in the address book of that account and ask them to confirm that i am the real owner. They can check with me by phone or other means and reply back with the validation.
And is there a way to do this without phone?! (i don't live in USA)

One day I put my password in and it never worked anymore. It gave me a fatal message error when I put my old password in. I have tried to get my password back since. I have all the info yahoo needs to get my password back except for the secret answer to my secret question and I do not remember which alternate email address I put in when I first registred my account? I have had the same Yahoo address & password for ten years. I cannot log in nor can I change my password. I tried everything they suggest. Same problem here, very frustrating that I don't remember the zip code, which i am sure was a random string of numbers i put in for form's sake since i don't live in the U.S. and don't use zip code. OK Yahoo is messed up! I, unlike many here, know all my info. My b-day, postal codes, country ect. and still it says I have not entered in my information correctly.

I thought ok maybe I made a mistake. So I opened another yahoo account that I have and looked at my personal information. I tried to get Yahoo to reset the password for this account and typed it in exactly as it appeared. Still it refused.

So I now know I have not forgoten my information. Yahoo's password recovery system is flawed!

Hi everyone. I just got myself out of a similar situation to most of you. My password was changed, and I didn't remember my personal information to retrieve it.

Just got my password reset! Here's how I did it:

- call +14083491572 (Yahoo customer support) *thanks to Rene van der Hoofd for the number
- provide your username
- if you can't provide the answer to your security questions, let them know you *do* remember your alternate email
- they will send you a reset password to your alternate email address
- open the email in your alternate email inbox and follow the instructions to reset your password

Note that this may depend on the agent you get. The one I dealt with was very helpful. This may not always be the case. Also, if you don't have access to your alternate email address, I'm sorry but you may be out of luck.

Like others all of sudden could not get into my Yahoo account. Trying the procedure as listed on 01-04-08 did not work. They've locked it, maybe because I tried using their automated procedure on their website. I've faxed them copies of my drivers license and passport and sent them all information they requested, but cannot get a response.

i've tried this and called yahoo at 866-850-4303 and they have been very helpful. got my account back in less than 15 min.

After reading all the information and comments here, I now understand that a free mail account is hacked. So what do you suggest to prevent it from getting hacked in the first place. Should we choose as long a password as they allow you to use? And giving an alternate email address and using the question and answer option and noting down all the information??

Today morning I logged in my account and then I click on change password. After changing password, It gives me error message that Invalid New Password. Hi Dave I changed my password on my yahoo account a year ago and I always use yahoo messenger to log on and not actually logging in on the yahoo web browser. I went to Kyoto ( living in Tokyo) for 6 days and tried to log on ( messenger remembered password) but that messenger finished or yahoo stopped using it on April 2, 2008 ( which I never got any warning about) and says I am logged on on another machine which has happened when I went from airport to a hotel ethernet connection before.
When I upgrade to messenger 7.0 is there a way it can still have my password saved ( from my current player) because that's the only way I can get back into my yahoo. Password recovery question no longer works but more than likely I just out smarted my self with my answer to what my first car was which I would never actually write the care name but chassis code or engine code and it's not working.... HELP!!!!

I am going through the whole process as we speak. This is what I did so far. Obviously I was hacked so I called yahoo they gave me an a-mail address to their security specialist. After sending them my info since I didnt remembered my alternate e-mail they asked me to fax my info again and the copy of my photo ID. LOL So I seem to be in the boat with everyone else. Kind of. I have a most wonderful computer - it remembers my passwords for me. No one has hacked my computer. I just moved to a new house and was in the process of updating all my IM accounts with the new information. I've got four MSN accounts and one Yahoo account. I just wish someone would email my yahoo password to my yahoo account. LOL If only for the beauty of having my computer remember my passwords for my IM, I'd never be on Yahoo. I only remember my ID cause that's all I see. I just click sign-in for all my accounts and I'm in. I know that no one can verify whether or not I'm the account holder. But I personally would like my password sent to me or to ANY of the alternative emails I have listed with the account... which I don't think I ever added. LOL Oh well. I guess I'm just doomed to one day no longer have a Yahoo account. Because if my 2-year-old son ever turns on the computer before I do, I'll kiss Yahoo goodbye. I like the old security setup. This one messes with more innocent users than the hackers do. At least in my account. If anyone can help me out (for free) my account is tobyyes.

My yahoo name is Varsinax. With it, I registered a Domain and Website with yahoo. The name of the website was Aoyn.com. It was a message board community for role playing.

The members of Aoyn eventually grew out of control. The broke the terms of service severely. By not stopping them from breaking the ToS, I was breaking yahoo's ToS on my Domain and Website. They deactivated my Varsinax named, which in turn took down my Domain and Website.

Now... I have registered a new yahoo name, a new Domain, and a new Website. I make our community follow the ToS, so bad things can't happen again to us.

All the account information for the Varsinax yahoo name is just a bunch of nonsense, that I don't remember, because I had put it in as nonsense to throw off stalkers. I never thought yahoo would do this to me. They never warned me. They just deactivated my Varsinax name and it took down everything. ANYHOW, the only way they can identify me is by my credit card number.

I called them, and all their questions about my account... I had it wrong, because like I said above, I changed it all to nonsense that I don't remember. They identified me when I confirmed the credit card with them. However, they would not restore my password or go any further with me. They said I needed to contact Yahoo via email.

Now, hold up... I thought any company out there could handle any problem by phone. And they just confirmed my credit card information, which I had been using for the Domain and Website.

If you know of an email to send my situation to, at Yahoo, then please let me know. But... I am so upset. This all happened more than a year ago, but it's still insane how I can't even use my yahoo name.

I broke their ToS. I need to be forgiven. I won't break it again. What, they ban you once, then you're done?? There has to be a way!! Any ideas?? All I want is to be able to use my Varsinax yahoo name again, if for nothing else, just to chat with old friends.

I took have had my account hacked. It happened last Friday night. I had to wait until today (Monday) to do anything about it, but after a phone call I think I am pointed in the right direction. I had to send an e-mail the the account security people, they then sent me a form to fill out and e-mail back. This was about 3 hours ago. I am confident that I will get access back to my account as it seems most of the people who had issues had not supplied real information on themselves from the beginning.

I didn't get locked out of my account as such at first but I noticed that when I logged in, sometimes the chat was unavailable. When trying to launch it I would get an error message "Chat logged in another application or computer. OK" Then it would disconnect. Absolutely not possible.

I changed my password. Several days later the same again, so I log out and in on my 2nd Yahoo account. I was available from my 1st Yahoo account for chat! So I sent a message asking what the heck they were doing on my account. 10 seconds later they disconnect. They obviously have access to my personal account data too and now I've lost both yahoo ids.

I'm hoping that my paid for by credit card Flickr Pro account on my hijacked Yahoo id will redeem itself so I can transfer all my photos over to another new Yahoo account and sort, back up and delete all email on both webmail accounts. If they don't listen I'll notify the credit card company, Trading Standards in the UK and a very big EU organisation who sent my logins for their server to one of those accounts and I'm sure Yahoo doesn't want to piss them off.

somtime back while iz using my orkut account i remember that i cliked on a link/URL that usualy says "click the below link to open the unlocked albums".i without knowing the ultimate result cliked the link that resulted to nothing and kept loading for long duration,i then simply considering it a virus closed the application.
After a couple of days i noticed a mail from mailor demon/failed delivery notification in my yahoo account mentioning that "invitation sent to manderjoshi@yahoo.com by me to join orkut has been failed".which actuly i never did,and it was a shocking surprise to note that sombody tried to send an invitation using my account when nobody except me knows the password of my yahoo account.since luckly the mail failed and i immidiatly changed all settings of my account like password,primary id ,erased all my contact info.etc.from my orkut account.
After few days i could see a friends request from his orkut account [mander joshi the same person] i did nothing but simply ignored coz at the back of my mind i had a thought that may be he has tried to hack my orkut profile,but to my surprise i could still see him sending scrap book entries in my yahoo id where i recieve all my notification form orkut,which actuly do not appear anywhere in my orkut scrap book. Im not understanding that when iv alrealy ignored him from recieving any further messages,scraps or friends requests from him how can it be possible that he still scribbling on my book, n when i check my book i could see nothing at all,till now iv recevied atleast 20 scrap book entries in my primary id yahoo,but not even a single one is visible in my profile anywhere,this problem is too complicated and evn serious im not getting what is the way out?has he created another profile using my yahoo i.d?its realy confusing .

I came across this page when searching for answers to not being able to access my yahoo account after changing the password.
I was still logged in on another window and was scared to shut it down in fear of being locked out of my account forever.
In another window I tried to answer the questions to get my password reset and as most of you did falsified information including birthdate and zip/postal code in order to protect my intentity from being abused...5 years later I couldn't remember any of the fake dates/numbers.
Contacted yahoo customer care by email and gave all the info to them and even offered to show my license to whomever or give credit card info to verify I was who I said I was.
They quickly got back to me stating I didn't have the matching info and would not get it reset but was asked to try to remember what I originally wrote (or last updated to) and to try again....

Luckily for me the issue was I was stilled logged in on another window and so both the old and new password would not work.
Once I was eventually logged out the password I thought I changed it to actually worked!
So that may be a simple solution for some of you, but scary to think that if I am hacked I will never be able to get all of my emails, contacts, photos, calendar and any other valuable pieces of info we all leave in our free accounts.

My Yahoo account was hijacked overnight, and within minutes of receiving the 'your password has been changed' email, my family and friends were getting emails from 'me' requesting money be sent to Nigeria.

I'm using yahoo for the last 8 years. From 5 days, i'm not able to login as somebody hacked my password. My DOB, zip also seems changed. My id is b_kamal_kanth@yahoo.co.in. I don't know what to do. I forgot my password and I was unable to reset it online inspite of providing the information required. Hi Dave,On 12/10/08 I was able to access my yahoo mail & groups. On 12/12/08 I tried logging in and received message that password was invalid. I have had this account since 1999.

I have gone through all the online procedures to recover my password . I have contacted customer service via email & phone calls. Apparently when I created the account the date of birth I used is correct . I receive the "Sorry, your password can't be reset online" message when trying to reset online. Phone calls are a dead end as they say they cannot help me without a correct DOB. The account is vital to our business and the group has over 975 members. I had changed my alternate email address on 10/28 and deleted a hotmail address and upon review of my googlemails,I now realize I got the verfiy email but did not confirm the new alternate email addresschange. I can't remember the secret question, I can give the correct answers if asked.
I do rememeber the original birthday that I provided when I signed up in 1999. I have changed it several time to avoid people searching and finding me on yahoo. Please help me?? Alright People Check it out ive been cracking yahoo accounts for years and heres the thing once a hacker gets into your account they change your info as in zip code, name, location and so on they do this because u will not be able to request your new password for the id they usally change the alt e-mail so a new password wont be sent to you there isnt really anything you can do about it but make a new id yahoo wont give you anything because u dont have the right information for the account i know it sux but u guys need to make your passwords harder the most commonly way a hacker gets your password is running a list of yahoo users through a program called a cracker and running a list of common passwords on each id so yeah theres my comments if you got questions u can e-mail me but i doubt there is anything i can help you with your accounts are gone.. the best way to contact yahoo is to call em on the phone look the number up... Good Luck!

Last week I kliked on this link http://faceserbia-extra.co.cc/ it led me to a fake facebook page, not knowing that it was fake I gave them my e -mail and my password, and of course since then I`m not able to log in to my facebook profil. and you can see that in my status the people who compromised may profil have posted the same link that leads to the fake facebook login page. The trouble is that I used the same passeword for my yahoo e-mail so it is also compromissed, and they also changed all my setings . Can you do anything about this?

Luckily and embarrassing at the same time i recieved a lot of calls asking how i was doing and if i still needed the money from friends and family. i told them not to send it and that It was a hacker that did this.

I was able to recover the password due to secret question and other data but i really want to figure out the curlpit.

I wrote a mail to Yahoo security center asking for the IP address which was used between the period to access this account it didnt help at all.

However, when i was asked the name of my pet i could not remember it. I do not know which pet names i used at that times when i created my yahoo account. I got a problem when trying to open my e-mail from 25th July
As I couldn't access I have changed my password & it send an e-mail to my other mail saying it''s done successfully.

hey dave, i was logged into my yahoo account and logged out to log into another yahoo account ( my business account) and did some work there. when i finished i tried to log back into my personal account and was unable to do so. i was prompted to change my password and did so but still can't get into my account. when they ask for my personal info (i.e., b-date, country, and zip code) i enter the info and am told that "the info does not match the info in my account profile" whats up with this?

OMG! Just today, I had problems I delted Mozilla Seamonkey version 1.1.18 and kept version 2.0.
Now I can not send or receive new e-mails.
I also can not use my original yahoo username and password to gain access. I used Internet Explorer to gain access to the change password tool. After it said password change successful I printed it out.

I was wondering if there is anyway of getting my old password back. I am using firefox and it saves my password, this is why I did not have to worry about it for last couple of years. Everything was fine until my computer crashed and I had to reformat my computer and that deleted all the history and saved passwords of every website and email providers. I am really scared and don't know what to do. I have used the same password for every website. I know its very unlikely for it to be hacked because of my security privacy thing in every website.

But I was wondering if there is anyway that I could get my old password back. I know I could go and change my password, but I have bee using it for a little while and I do not want to change it now and the fact its the same everywhere I dont really have to worry about it changing everywhere else and do the same process...

I had this problem yesterday, May 22, 2010, for my personal yahoo account. For no reason, I was chatting in my yahoo messenger, it simply automatically logged out itself and when I try to signed in back, I get the message that I typed in an incorrect ID and/or incorrect password. It is such a disgrace if Yahoo! does not provide alternatives to handle such cases.
In my country, unlike the US, zip code aint popular at all. We don't use such data often. I was about to register full service by credit card, for Yahoo! with no ads, but now I am so disturbed and highly disappointed!

Lol. Yahoo sucks period. I had my wow info on the yahoo account my cod4 cod6 tf2 like 30 games cd keys and account info/passwords on my email and guess what. My account got hacked and well yahoo lets you change your Security Question date of birth and all of that stuff which DOES NOT help with security. So once your account gets hacked and you have important things on it like credit card # or anything your screwed because hackers can change every bit of personal info and make it there account and what can you do? nothing. Just got an interesting one today with regards to Yahoo. Was logged into my email, had a glitch with a video download from an email attachment from my old man, and now I cannot log in. Wierd thing is, when I go to reset my password, and I cannot get past the random image verification, even tried the audible number generator.

I went to try and create a new account with the same id, but it won't let me, so that should confirm the id hasn't been accidentally wiped from the system.

Any idea on what is going on or how to fix it?? There is no email address I can send a complaint to (that I can find anyway), nor a number I could call within Australia.

While I'll agree with what most people here have said, and that this advice is a bit useless, I should also point out that Yahoo no longer even asks me for my secret question. When trying to retrieve my password today it simply asked me for my Yahoo ID and to enter in the random code it generated below. Then, after clicking on Next, it gave me a message "Sorry, your password can't be reset online.
For security reasons, we require you to contact Customer Care"

But never once did it ask me for the answer to my secret question. How useless is it to have such a system if we can't use it to protect our accounts?

hi, Once i have faced this type of problem, i tried to enter my email account but password was changed by the hacker. I retrieve password by such method. I sent an email to yahoo support center with all my details of the email account. I told them my passwords changed history my folders in account.. names of the folders, come emails received by my friends and their subjects. Support really helped me out and sent me a new password on my other email account.try this hopefully it will work.

Wow. What an epic comments section. Can't believe people are still posting here so many years after the original post. It really says something about the critical flaw with Yahoo's ID system.

Here's my sob story with my Yahoo ID: a long time ago, I signed up for a Geocities account using "zzyss" (the same nickname I've been using everywhere for years). I don't remember clearly, but I don't think it was mandatory to provide any recovery information back then, or if it was, it was different to the current "birthday, country, zipcode" combination that's used now.

Then Yahoo acquired Geocities, and I don't know how or why, but they merged their namespaces. Ever since then, I've lost access to zzyss-AT-yahoo-DOTCOM because their password recovery facility is asking for info that I never provided. To the best of my knowledge, old IDs are never expired, quarantined or recycled. Yahoo support has pretty much said "sucked in" every few years when I could be bothered sending in an enquiry about it.

Considering how many services Yahoo IDs are linked to now (Flickr, Mail, etc.) woe be to you if you haven't gone in and provided the recovery details while you still have access to your account.

Hi Dave, I really hope you can help me with this issue. The other day someone hacked my yahoo account. I have been able to log in and changed my password. Whoever hacked my account added an alternate e-mail that is very similiar to my e-mail. They proceeded to send a "money scam" to everyone in my account before deleting my account. Now, I hear from friends via text or phone call, that when they reply-to an e-mail from my originial e-mail address, the "alternate" e-mail shows up in the reply to box. I have searched my options in my yahoo classi mail, but can't find any place where I can fix that. I have contacted yahoo customer service, but am worried that I won't even be able to get a message back from them. I have put my gmail address here, hoping that I will be able to hear back from you!

I cannot log into Yahoo. I changed passwords and went through the process 5 separate times but when I return to sign in I get: "Invalid ID or password.Please try again using your full Yahoo! ID, and type the text you see in the picture"
However, let me guarantee that I entered the correct information. No matter what I enter the same information I received. I even re-registered a new account and went through the same process and I got back the same answer. It is frustrating because it is like talking to the wall. Yahoo does not solve the problem nor inform customers what is happening. I suppose this means they do not want new accounts and are attempting by attrition for existing ones to give up and go elsewhere.

Hi Dave, i had my yahoo account since year 2000. My mail was hacked once some years ago and now again I cannot sign in. It is frustrating...I had some virus or hack I don't know but all my contacts were spammed with some mail I haven't sent - this happened two or three times and I erased all my contacts so that I won't bother them until I decide how to get rid of the spam... but all in vain - as soon I've done that I couldn't access my account .. I even waited for a couple of weeks if I have blocked the account with my trials... I forgot the Yahoo Password information. So, I request you to please send us the yahoo password in my Facebook account. My Facebook account is same from my yahoo ID algraemagat@yahoo.com. I cannot get my password back. sir in my account I have some emails from the company and resume the people to applying in our company.

how do i retrieve my password? when i tried to access my alternate email i also discovered the password had been changed just like my other yahoo account (oprahchuck@yahoo.com)but my alternate email can still access my face book account, is there no way i could access my yahoo email through my face book account?

I remember the password, but not the security questions.

but I cannot remember the security questions and get the following error:

"Unsuccessful Login: Account Locked Temporarily. This account is temporarily locked for 12 hours because of security concerns. Please try signing in later or contact online Yahoo! Customer Care for further assistance"

The problem is, since I do not remember my answers, I still wont be able to answer the questions in 12 hours, but I need that account. Could you please help me? I have used it recently, so I can tell you a bit about the email traffic I had.. I might even remember the second security question, but not the first one..

Hi Dave, I forgot my password!! Twice I went through the questions provided by Yahoo help and each time I was told that I would be on a 12-hr. lockout/hold. Today, I do not want to be told that I am on a 12-hr lockout/hold. How can I get help to have my forgotten password forwarded to me, or how to acquire a new password.
The sign-in page use to have a note at the bottom asking "Forgot your Password". Currently that statement is not there.
I use the computer at the public Library. I called a Help phone number and was told they couldn't help me because I used a public e-mail service.

Its now 4 days since my email address has been locked . Am asked about my oldest child's name which i gave when i opened my account and i cant remember.
