What's my Yahoo account password?

Dear Dave, I wrote to Yahoo previously asking about my mail I believe had been hacked because my password is suddenly rejected. I am so disappointed no help has been given. What can I do to ask for a new password and retrieve my mail when I can't remember the zip code I entered previously?

It is such a disgrace if Yahoo! does not provide alternatives to handle such cases.
In my country, unlike the US, zip code aint popular at all. We don't use such data often. I was about to register full service by credit card, for Yahoo! with no ads, but now I am so disturbed and highly disappointed!

These are always interesting requests for help to receive, actually. On the one hand, it's true that prompting for a zipcode as a key to retrieve a password is very ethnocentric since most other countries in the world have either something only vaguely similar (postal codes, but they can contain letters and numbers) or have nothing that serves a similar purpose.

On the other hand, Yahoo! lets you chose from about 30 different countries, including China, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Thailand and Vietnam. Further, you can actually set any of about a dozen different reminder questions if you don't have a zip code, as shown here:

If you have an account, it's your responsibility to set it up so that you can recover and restore any settings or similar.

But there's a bigger issue here. The issue is how does Yahoo! know that you have legitimate claim to this account?

If you were someone who was trying to break into an account, a "hacker" as you suggest, then you wouldn't know the zipcode for the password reminder and you wouldn't know the password.

In fact, I don't like to help people recover their passwords when they don't know the answers to their recovery questions, the situation you describe here, because I also have no way of differentiating between someone in a frustrating and unfortunate situation and someone who is trying to game the system, trying to con me (or Yahoo!) into releasing access to a personal account.

So the final answer I'll offer is that if you really want to have a Yahoo Mail account, then make sure that you promptly modify your account settings so that you have a reminder question that you're 100% sure you'll remember.

I came across this page when searching for answers to not being able to access my yahoo account after changing the password.
I was still logged in on another window and was scared to shut it down in fear of being locked out of my account forever.
In another window I tried to answer the questions to get my password reset and as most of you did falsified information including birthdate and zip/postal code in order to protect my intentity from being abused...5 years later I couldn't remember any of the fake dates/numbers.
Contacted yahoo customer care by email and gave all the info to them and even offered to show my license to whomever or give credit card info to verify I was who I said I was.
They quickly got back to me stating I didn't have the matching info and would not get it reset but was asked to try to remember what I originally wrote (or last updated to) and to try again....

Luckily for me the issue was I was stilled logged in on another window and so both the old and new password would not work.
Once I was eventually logged out the password I thought I changed it to actually worked!
So that may be a simple solution for some of you, but scary to think that if I am hacked I will never be able to get all of my emails, contacts, photos, calendar and any other valuable pieces of info we all leave in our free accounts.

My Yahoo account was hijacked overnight, and within minutes of receiving the 'your password has been changed' email, my family and friends were getting emails from 'me' requesting money be sent to Nigeria.

I won't ask you for help in fixing the problem. But perhaps you can give me an idea of my chances of Yahoo helping me fix the problem. Should I chase them hard, or is it a waste of time?

I have gone through all the online procedures to recover my password . I have contacted customer service via email & phone calls. The chat decoder alos didnt show the chats from this id because he might have opted to unsave chat history. I know personal info of all his other accounts and for this unknown account I only know the secret answer and question but either zip /country I am missing .Thats the reason why I am not able to take help from writing to Yahoo customer care as well......

Can you please help me out ....and trust me it just very personal ..not to hack anyones account.. I am just concerned about my life

It's been a while a long while sense I have been able to access my yahoo account maybe 5yr+ it's sillykidshore@yahoo.com the funny thing is I think i did this to myself by changing the required basic info and p.w. and just forgot everything. or maybe it was hacked i just can't remember. My email was hacked too, and personal info and security info. was changed, but I know well enough that no one here is going to help "hack" any accounts...for one it is illegal to do so, and second, as Dave said you should remember your info.

Alright People Check it out ive been cracking yahoo accounts for years and heres the thing once a hacker gets into your account they change your info as in zip code, name, location and so on they do this because u will not be able to request your new password for the id they usally change the alt e-mail so a new password wont be sent to you there isnt really anything you can do about it but make a new id yahoo wont give you anything because u dont have the right information for the account i know it sux but u guys need to make your passwords harder the most commonly way a hacker gets your password is running a list of yahoo users through a program called a cracker and running a list of common passwords on each id so yeah theres my comments if you got questions u can e-mail me but i doubt there is anything i can help you with your accounts are gone.. the best way to contact yahoo is to call em on the phone look the number up... Good Luck!
