What's my Yahoo account password?

Dear Dave, I wrote to Yahoo previously asking about my mail I believe had been hacked because my password is suddenly rejected. I am so disappointed no help has been given. What can I do to ask for a new password and retrieve my mail when I can't remember the zip code I entered previously?

It is such a disgrace if Yahoo! does not provide alternatives to handle such cases.
In my country, unlike the US, zip code aint popular at all. We don't use such data often. I was about to register full service by credit card, for Yahoo! with no ads, but now I am so disturbed and highly disappointed!

These are always interesting requests for help to receive, actually. On the one hand, it's true that prompting for a zipcode as a key to retrieve a password is very ethnocentric since most other countries in the world have either something only vaguely similar (postal codes, but they can contain letters and numbers) or have nothing that serves a similar purpose.

On the other hand, Yahoo! lets you chose from about 30 different countries, including China, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Thailand and Vietnam. Further, you can actually set any of about a dozen different reminder questions if you don't have a zip code, as shown here:

If you have an account, it's your responsibility to set it up so that you can recover and restore any settings or similar.

But there's a bigger issue here. The issue is how does Yahoo! know that you have legitimate claim to this account?

If you were someone who was trying to break into an account, a "hacker" as you suggest, then you wouldn't know the zipcode for the password reminder and you wouldn't know the password.

In fact, I don't like to help people recover their passwords when they don't know the answers to their recovery questions, the situation you describe here, because I also have no way of differentiating between someone in a frustrating and unfortunate situation and someone who is trying to game the system, trying to con me (or Yahoo!) into releasing access to a personal account.

So the final answer I'll offer is that if you really want to have a Yahoo Mail account, then make sure that you promptly modify your account settings so that you have a reminder question that you're 100% sure you'll remember.

OK Yahoo is messed up! I, unlike many here, know all my info. My b-day, postal codes, country ect. and still it says I have not entered in my information correctly.

I thought ok maybe I made a mistake. So I opened another yahoo account that I have and looked at my personal information. I tried to get Yahoo to reset the password for this account and typed it in exactly as it appeared. Still it refused.

Hi everyone. I just got myself out of a similar situation to most of you. My password was changed, and I didn't remember my personal information to retrieve it.

Just got my password reset! Here's how I did it:

- call +14083491572 (Yahoo customer support) *thanks to Rene van der Hoofd for the number
- provide your username
- if you can't provide the answer to your security questions, let them know you *do* remember your alternate email
- they will send you a reset password to your alternate email address
- open the email in your alternate email inbox and follow the instructions to reset your password

Note that this may depend on the agent you get. The one I dealt with was very helpful. This may not always be the case. Also, if you don't have access to your alternate email address, I'm sorry but you may be out of luck.

I am going through the whole process as we speak. This is what I did so far. Obviously I was hacked so I called yahoo they gave me an a-mail address to their security specialist. After sending them my info since I didnt remembered my alternate e-mail they asked me to fax my info again and the copy of my photo ID. So right now I need to wait 72 hours and I'm hoping they can help. Reading this forum I have doubts though.

My yahoo name is Varsinax. With it, I registered a Domain and Website with yahoo. The name of the website was Aoyn.com. It was a message board community for role playing.

The members of Aoyn eventually grew out of control. The broke the terms of service severely. By not stopping them from breaking the ToS, I was breaking yahoo's ToS on my Domain and Website. They deactivated my Varsinax named, which in turn took down my Domain and Website.

Now... I have registered a new yahoo name, a new Domain, and a new Website. I make our community follow the ToS, so bad things can't happen again to us.

All the account information for the Varsinax yahoo name is just a bunch of nonsense, that I don't remember, because I had put it in as nonsense to throw off stalkers. I never thought yahoo would do this to me. They never warned me. They just deactivated my Varsinax name and it took down everything. ANYHOW, the only way they can identify me is by my credit card number.

I called them, and all their questions about my account... I had it wrong, because like I said above, I changed it all to nonsense that I don't remember. They identified me when I confirmed the credit card with them. However, they would not restore my password or go any further with me. They said I needed to contact Yahoo via email.

Now, hold up... I thought any company out there could handle any problem by phone. And they just confirmed my credit card information, which I had been using for the Domain and Website.

If you know of an email to send my situation to, at Yahoo, then please let me know. But... I am so upset. This all happened more than a year ago, but it's still insane how I can't even use my yahoo name.

I broke their ToS. I need to be forgiven. I won't break it again. What, they ban you once, then you're done?? There has to be a way!! Any ideas?? All I want is to be able to use my Varsinax yahoo name again, if for nothing else, just to chat with old friends.

I took have had my account hacked. It happened last Friday night. I had to wait until today (Monday) to do anything about it, but after a phone call I think I am pointed in the right direction. I had to send an e-mail the the account security people, they then sent me a form to fill out and e-mail back. This was about 3 hours ago. I am confident that I will get access back to my account as it seems most of the people who had issues had not supplied real information on themselves from the beginning.

i could create a new email account but all my stuff are in there. i emailed yahoo twice but still awaiting response. what should i do?

I didn't get locked out of my account as such at first but I noticed that when I logged in, sometimes the chat was unavailable. When trying to launch it I would get an error message "Chat logged in another application or computer. OK" Then it would disconnect. Absolutely not possible.

I changed my password. Several days later the same again, so I log out and in on my 2nd Yahoo account. I was available from my 1st Yahoo account for chat! So I sent a message asking what the heck they were doing on my account. 10 seconds later they disconnect. They obviously have access to my personal account data too and now I've lost both yahoo ids.

I'm hoping that my paid for by credit card Flickr Pro account on my hijacked Yahoo id will redeem itself so I can transfer all my photos over to another new Yahoo account and sort, back up and delete all email on both webmail accounts. If they don't listen I'll notify the credit card company, Trading Standards in the UK and a very big EU organisation who sent my logins for their server to one of those accounts and I'm sure Yahoo doesn't want to piss them off.

somtime back while iz using my orkut account i remember that i cliked on a link/URL that usualy says "click the below link to open the unlocked albums".i without knowing the ultimate result cliked the link that resulted to nothing and kept loading for long duration,i then simply considering it a virus closed the application.
After a couple of days i noticed a mail from mailor demon/failed delivery notification in my yahoo account mentioning that "invitation sent to manderjoshi@yahoo.com by me to join orkut has been failed".which actuly i never did,and it was a shocking surprise to note that sombody tried to send an invitation using my account when nobody except me knows the password of my yahoo account.since luckly the mail failed and i immidiatly changed all settings of my account like password,primary id ,erased all my contact info.etc.from my orkut account.
After few days i could see a friends request from his orkut account [mander joshi the same person] i did nothing but simply ignored coz at the back of my mind i had a thought that may be he has tried to hack my orkut profile,but to my surprise i could still see him sending scrap book entries in my yahoo id where i recieve all my notification form orkut,which actuly do not appear anywhere in my orkut scrap book. Im not understanding that when iv alrealy ignored him from recieving any further messages,scraps or friends requests from him how can it be possible that he still scribbling on my book, n when i check my book i could see nothing at all,till now iv recevied atleast 20 scrap book entries in my primary id yahoo,but not even a single one is visible in my profile anywhere,this problem is too complicated and evn serious im not getting what is the way out?has he created another profile using my yahoo i.d?its realy confusing .
If u could please help me out with this ill be greatly obliged coz both my yahoo as well as orkut account are too imp.for me n i dont want anyone to mess up with them...plz help
Note:i usualy use my gmail i.d to login to my orkut account but i recieve all my orkut notifications like friends request,scrap book entry etc in my yahoo account.
