How do I unsubscribe from a group on MySpace?

I joined a group on MySpace and really don't want to be part of the group any more, but I can't figure out how to quit or unsubscribe from the group. Can you enlighten me, please?

Dave's Answer:

I am going to assume you mean one of the millions of different groups on MySpace that are found by clicking on the Groups navigational element, and fortunately it's pretty easy to unsubscribe or, as they say, "resign" from a group.

First off, log in to MySpace and click on the "Groups" link along the top. Now you'll be looking at an extensive list of groups and on the left side you'll see this:

Myspace Groups Menu

Click on "My Groups" and you'll see a picture of the different groups you're in:

Myspace Groups: My personal group list

I'm going to unsubscribe, quit or resign (pick your word!) from the Internet group, and to do that I simply click on the group from this list and get to the group's information page. Lots of stuff, but on the top right of the page, I now see this:

Myspace Groups: Individual Group Menu

You can guess the next step: click on Resign.

You're now asked to confirm that you really want to resign from the group:

Myspace Groups: Confirm Unsubscribe

Assuming you do, click "Resign" and that's all you need to do.

I was a member of group that got deleted (or something, it doesn't exist anymore) but the link still shows on my profile to that group. Since the group doesn't exist anymore, I can't resign like explained above. How can I get that link removed from my profile page?

I have the same question as Noise Barrier. How the heck do I get rid of memberships to groups that no longer exist? I am aware that I can hid the links on my profile but only if I hide all of them. I'd like to be rid of these groups once and for all. Help please!

I, as well, need help with the question that Noise Barrier and Jen asked... how do you remove an invalid group from your profile?

http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.resign&groupID=GROUP ID

for the group ID, just do a "mouse-over" and it should go to the resign screen. trust me...it works. and plz post this where needed, i know how it feels to have a dead group on the page.

Reg! Thank you.

I've been looking for a way to do that for weeks.

ive been having the same problem! bah this is so frustrating.

Posted by: Stephanie at April 7, 2007 12:58 PM

Ok Im dumb. Ive followed the link but am still stuck with this dead group. What does "mouse over" mean? I must be missing something.

Posted by: hormelp at April 19, 2007 2:17 PM

reg is right, i used this link and got rid of all the unwanted groups on my page that had "invalid ids". basically, all you have to do is click on the group that you want to resign from. it'll go to the screen that says invalid id, well in the address bar, copy the group ID number. it'll look something like this:

(example)
...groupID=100531695&MyToken=c43604f4-eacf-4f25-a667-61d544af50be

take the number 100531695 (the group id) and put it in the link below as the GROUP ID

http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.resign&groupID=GROUP ID

it worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you :)

Thanks for the good advice from the other contributors. Just some clarity on the last step to be done to resign (for people unfamiliar with myspace like me)
1. click on link of the group you want to resign from. It will take you to the window 'invalid group ID'
2. Copy the link at the top of your browser to Notepad. It will look something like this: http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.groupprofile&groupID=106537268
3. Now go to a group that is valid, click on the group logo. It will take you to a little window with 5 buttons, one of which will read 'Resign'.
4. Click on 'Resign'. It will take you to another window 'Confirm resign'. DON'T CLICK on 'Resign' button, instead copy top of browser in notepad.
It will look like this:

http://group.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.resign&groupID=100148598&groupName=Auckland+MySpacers
5. Delete the part after group ID, replace the number with the group you want to resign from. It will look like this:
http://group.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.resign&groupID=106537268
6. Now copy to your browser address bar and press enter. You should then get a window to confirm your resignation of the group.
This should do the trick

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
