How do I unfan / unlike a page, product or service on Facebook?I don't know why I hadn't realized it before, but every time I've clicked "like" on a Facebook page or fan page, it's not only comunicated to my friends, but it's recorded as part of my account forever. Yikes! There are some I clicked on when I was just starting on Facebook that I really don't want to have associated with my account any more. How do I unlike, unfriend, unfan - whatever the word is - these Facebook pages?? Cool question, thanks for asking it! I wasn't sure about how to do this myself, so it was a good excuse for me to skim through the 169 pages I've become a fan of and ensure that they were all still appropriate and aligned with my beliefs and values. (a fancy way of saying "did I say Eeewwww when I saw them listed?" of course!) Turns out that the basic process is identical to how you unfriend people on Facebook (as I explain here: How to Unfriend Someone on Facebook): click through to the fan page, whether it's for a person, product or service, then on the lower left of the page you'll see "Unlike". Let me show you, since that's kinda what we do here at Ask Dave Taylor... First off, to see what you've become a fan of, uh, liked, click on your own name on Facebook so you can see your profile. Mid-way down on the left, you'll see something like this: ![]() You can click on the little pencil icon, but the most effective path is to just click on the part that shows you how may "likes" you have. You can see I have 167. Man, that's a lot! A window pops up with a scrolling list of these pages: ![]() If I zip down a bit, I can find one that I'll unlike - just as practice, of course - that I have also highlighted in this pic: ![]() Clicking on the name of a fan page that you've liked takes you to that page, as you can see here in this thumbnail of the top of the Mobile Marketing Profits page: ![]() What I seek is a few scroll pages down, on the left side, the last items in the column: ![]() Again, I've highlighted the important entry, "Unlike", so you can see what's happening. I click on "Unlike" here on this Facebook fan page and there's no confirmation dialog, nothing. Poof! I'm no longer a fan / liking this particular page. That's demonstrated by the fact that the "Like" button reappears on the top of the page: ![]() Go through your own Likes list: do you still want to be associated with all of these particular pages? Something to think about... Also check out:

These look like great tips. Unfortunately, they don't work when using an iPad, as NONE of this is part of the way iPad formats Facebook. All that you show in your wonderful screen shots do not exist in the iPad universe. There are merely a few basic buttons. Ooo. Not impressed. Plus it can't support my Gmail, which it continually crashes. And let's not even talk about the Flash issue. All of which makes my iPad pretty damn worthless. Posted by: Steven at November 12, 2011 4:09 PMThis only works if you liked something in the first place. Today I saw two things on my Facebook sidebar that I supposedly liked, but actually "liked". When I try to unlike them, the Like button was never chosen so I can only "Like" it. I could try Liking and then "un"liking, but who knows the effect of that! I hate sneaky, underhanded, dishonest tactics that use me to advertise a product. Posted by: Allison at May 5, 2012 1:11 PM(Updated to correct an important missing word!) I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
