No audio/sound from my MacBook via HDMI?
I just bought an adapter and HDMI cable so I could hook my MacBook up to the HD TV set in my mountain cabin and it looks great, but there's no sound! Do I need a separate sound cable for this to work? I thought that HDMI could handle audio and video?

How do I pair a Magic Trackpad with my iMac?
This is probably like remedial Mac OS X 101, but I just got a new Magic Trackpad and am excited to use it, but can't figure out how to have my iMac know it's there. Since it's wireless, there's gotta be some trick, but my wi-fi / airport system never sees it?

What kind of MacBook Pro do I need to run Final Cut Studio?
I'm a young student preparing myself for film classes. I decided that if possible I'd get Final Cut Studio over express. Problem is that I'm buying a macbook pro with that and I to get it to run might be a hassle. Will the 13 inch 2.53 work, or will I need a better one (i heard some conflicting arguments about needing a discrete graphics card which is only available in the higher end models)?
The thing is that if I am unable to run programs like color and motion (basicaly the whole package) with the 15 inch model then I would rather just go for a cheaper mac with express.

Review: Blue Microphone "Snowflake" external mic
As I have moved more into conference calls via Skype and am now involved in two podcasts on a weekly basis (Boulder Open Podcast (or in iTunes) and Three Insight (or in iTunes), you are listening to them, right? I hope so!) I'm finding that the built-in microphone on my MacBook Pro isn't the optimal audio quality. Worse, there's also a frequent feedback loop of it picking up the audio coming out of the speakers which leads to a sort of weird echo/reverb loop.
As a result, I've been on the hunt for a good, small, portable microphone that will offer better audio quality and still be compact enough that I can have it in my computer bag without adding weight and bulk. My ideal is a tiny lavalier microphone that can be clipped onto my shirt and plug into the "mic" input on my MacBook Pro, but so far I haven't found a single manufacturer offering such a thing. Oddly, but maybe it's a tough problem.
When my colleagues and I have all been in the same room, we've been recording our podcasts using the Blue Microphone Snowball, which is a nice microphone but pretty big and bulky. When Blue Microphone contacted me and asked me if I wanted to evaluate the Snowflake, what they call their "portable professional USB mic", I was most interested...

Why is my MacBook Pro suddenly running hot?
This is weird, but all of a suddenly my MacBook Pro is running really hot and the fan keeps turning on. Not a big deal, but I'm used to it being quiet and smooth without ever even being aware of its temperature. Is there a power supply problem, as my Dad suggests, or is it something else going on? I'm just afraid that my Mac is about to die and that'd be a disaster!

What MacBook should I get for a trip to Africa?
Hi Dave. My contract with my current client ends in three weeks. Since I'll finally be a free agent I am going to spend several months in west Africa as I have a good friend living in Sierra Leone. I'm looking to teach, freelance or do whatever paying gigs come my way.
I have the 17in MacBook pro which is great even though I've had it since December 2007. I've been considering selling it for cash toward a new 13 inch MacBook Pro so that I can blog, do podcasts, etc. However I don't know if getting the new one is the right choice considering there's no slot for another battery. I'll be without power for about five hours a day in Freetown.
I'd feel safer having an additional battery in case the power is out for an extended period of time. Should I just look for the previous version of the MacBook? Would I be sacrificing a lot of power?

How do I sign up for Apple's Mobile Me service?
Now that I have an iMac and an Apple iPhone 3GS I am thinking I should also sign up for Apple's Mobile Me service so I can have wireless syncing and be just a bit safer in case I lose my phone too. How do I proceed?
