Sony PSP system version 2.0 + Web browser?Yo Dave, I want to download the new PSP 2.0 software so I can try out the kewl Web browser, but don't know where to start. Do I need a USB wire or is it a wireless download? My connection always says there is a DNS error cause my access point has a WEP key or something ilke that, and third, where do I go to download the software? Please help me ASAP! Let's start with a warning, shall we? The 2.0 firmware has only been released into the Japanese market by Sony, so there is a chance that downloading and applying this 2.0 release will seriously mess up your Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) unit. I am not planning on doing this with my own PSP unit, for example, so that I'm tracking the American firmware releases. However, I have read lots of reports that people have this working with nary a glitch, so ... There are a ton of new additions in this major firmware / operating system upgrade for the Sony PSP, however, so I'm certainly eager to have 2.0 available to us in the North American marketplace. Here's just a sampling of what's new:
Enough sales pitch, though! If you want to know more about what's included, read IGN, Macworld, Engadget or even PC World or Gamespot. Let's get on with it... The very first step you need to do is to download the new firmware "EBOOT.PBP" file. Now follow these steps:
Hopefully you'll be doing fine with this... If you want to read more comments and user experiences, the interesting site PSP Hacks has quite an extensive discussion of the 2.0 upgrade.

Source: SCEA Posted by: shabby johnson at August 4, 2005 3:23 AMI'm definitely looking forward to 2.0, but a word processor? Without even a rudimentary keyboard? Man, I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment! :-) Posted by: Dave Taylor at August 4, 2005 3:31 AMHi Dave, Thanks for letting me in. Thanks. Marjorie Posted by: Marge at August 4, 2005 4:22 AMMarjorie, the English manual for the Sony PSP can be found here: http://www.us.playstation.com/psp/Manuals.aspx Posted by: Dave Taylor at August 4, 2005 4:44 AMIs there any other hacks that you know of beside the wipeout game hack... thanks. Posted by: Mitchell at August 5, 2005 6:05 AMThe site http://www.psphacks.com/ has lots of hacks, cool and otherwise. Good luck! Posted by: Dave Taylor at August 5, 2005 6:31 AMhey...?.....I just thought of something, could't you use of thouse MSN simulated websites 'emessanger' and chat to your msn contacts same as pc? Posted by: Zack at August 6, 2005 4:12 AMI think step 3 should be PSP/Game hi dave, i have the web browser but it doesnt work it says it cant find the access point wat is that i mean im only 11 wat do i know how can i get it to work If you're 11 get your dad to do it (or tell your parents to stop spoiling you). Otherwise just wait for the North American release. And Zack, I'm not sure if those will work because most of them require some sort of install into Internet Explorer, and the PSP browser does not use an IE engine. Posted by: Kevin at August 11, 2005 4:44 PMit is now aug 12 12:30am and no download wtf Posted by: carmelo at August 12, 2005 8:48 PMhi dave taylor , its now august 12th , so were can i download the new american 2.0 update ? cause its not showing up on the psp. so please reply . thanks alot Posted by: bigc at August 12, 2005 11:58 PMI wish I had an inside track with Sony and could definitively answer this question, but so far, no news, no rumors and no download. Stay tuned to the Sony site, I guess. Posted by: Dave Taylor at August 13, 2005 12:04 AMFirmware 2.0 for US PSPs delayed Web browser, background wallpaper, photo sharing, and more will have to wait until August 15. With PSP owners complaining about the dearth of games available for the multimedia handheld, many have been using the portable for things other than gaming. The months of June, July, and August yielded only five new games for the handheld, making the PSP's other functions (MP3 player, movie player, digital photo viewer) more essential.
The update's most significant addition is the Web browser application, which lets PSP owners tap into free wireless hot spots to surf the Internet. Other features include "enhanced video and audio playback, photo sharing options, broader network connectivity, and a customizable interface to suit each user's personal style." Posted by: Dave Taylor at August 13, 2005 4:27 AMim hearing alot about this firmware 2.0 what is it suppose to do????? Posted by: Rashad at August 13, 2005 9:31 AMThe Japanese Version of the firmware does work on the US PSP because they are technically the same (like the DS) It is just the language that differs. On a website I saw they said Sony might be delaying the US 2.0 update until SEPTEMBER 1 to make it fair to the EU and the Australian markets. Posted by: Bulls729 at August 14, 2005 5:58 AMFor Some reason, the PSP 2.0 Upgrade willnot conect for me... It gives me a Error message : "The game could not be started Any Ideas? >.< Posted by: Lamont at August 15, 2005 5:16 AMdo u have to dowload it to get it? if not then y hasnt it come out on wireless conection? The PSP 2.0 firmware update is now available for download. Please remember if you decide to upgrade there’s currently NO possible way to downgrade back to 1.50 or any previous version for that matter. Version 2.0 will prevent you from utilizing any homebrew and/or loaders. PSP 2.0 changes: Network Internet browser added Jump function added (UMD Video & UMD Music) Can accept music tracks in Atract3 Plus format from “Sonicstage” under version 3.2 (now for pre-order) Wallpaper function added “Korean language” added to “System settings” -> “System language” Connect your PSP to your PC via USB cable. Posted by: super hero at January 17, 2006 4:50 PMAssuming, as always, that you're willing to trust the very functionality of your Sony PSP to unknown hackers who might think it's cool to help you downgrade, but might also just think it's funny to help you "brick" your PSP. (Bricking is when the PSP is left non-functional and "about as useful as a brick". And yes, it happens) Posted by: Dave Taylor at January 17, 2006 5:03 PMok someone PLEASE help. I've been reading all about downgrading your psp from 2.00 to 1.50. i know how to do it.. I've read the instructions a milion times and i do them right..when i click on the memory stick on game, it shows the 1.50 update but when i click on it, all it says is "this game could not be started" I thought about it and i think it has to do with this: when i try to transfer the EBOOT.PHP file to the UPDATE folder, it locks up and says "cannot copy eboot:cannot find the specified file. make sure you specify the correct path and file name". but after i try it again, it shows that its already been transfered... so i dont know..thats probably rthe problem but someone please help. and I've already downloaded the eboot twice.
