Roxio EasyCD prevents access to Win XP CD and DVD devices?

I'm running WinXP Pro with three CD/DVD devices. Roxio EasyCD program nullifies access to any of the three! When I try to rip CD to MP3 the computer can't access any one of the three drives. Same when I try to play a music CD or read a data CD. I am able to cold boot and find the drives, but after I use the system for a while, it "loses" the CD/DVD drives. Dave, what's up?

Dave's Answer:

I asked a colleague to research this one as it was quite specific and my PC, well, let's just say that while it can run WinXP Pro, it's not quite up to three CD/DVD devices...

He offers a solution that involves using the regedit program, which might or might not be more technical detailed (read "geeky") than you're ready to handle. If you are, however, here's how to do it:

  1. Bring up the run prompt by choosing "Start" -> "run". Type regedit in the box and click OK.
  2. Navigate through folders in left hand column by double left clicking the folders in the following order:
    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    2. SYSTEM
    3. CurrentControlSet
    4. Control
    5. Class
    6. {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. In the right hand column, right click on the following items and select delete:
    • UpperFilters
    • LowerFilters
If you are unable to find these items, move directly to step 5
  4. Once deleted restart your computer and if that fails to resolve your problem try step 5

  5. If steps 1-4 didn't work, then do this: Choose "start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Performance and maintenance" -> "System" -> "Hardware" -> "Device Manager"
  6. Double left click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
  7. Right click Secondary IDE Channel and select uninstall.
  8. After XP is done uninstalling, right click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and select Scan for Hardware Changes.
  9. Once finished restart your computer.

If this doesn't do the trick, then it's a hardware problem, check your cabling, three CD/DVD devices does suggest things could be getting a little congested.

In regards to Easy CD Creator Problem,

I too had that Problem and "it's the (in CD) thats doing the changes......I had to keep going into Hardware Settings and "unInstalling my CD Driveand re-Installing it, in otder to get it back "to working condition", I haven't heard of any fix.....as of yet, so I just don't use Easy CD Creator anymore....until a fix can be found.

similar with AnyDVD program it changes
CD/DVD-ROM writer drivers settings,
so that only with AnyDVD running can get full access
Cure can allways use Device manager & get it to
re-install original XP Pro ATAPI drivers then
Full access is restored

Thanks for the post on a problem that has really gotten to me. I find that iTunes (v4.9) doesn't work when EasyCD has previously been installed ... but when I do the fix above to get iTunes (changing the registry keys) to work, then easyCD Creator (v5.3.10) no longer works!
What to do to get easyCD Creator to work?

On my roxio when I use Videowave to burn picture cd in VCD I get an error 80170021 while creating VCD image appears. It worked before and all of a sudden it started doing that. It's like Roxio intends to do this after a year to get you to buy the upgrade version.
What can I do?
