Remove an address from my Toyota GPS navigation system?

My friend just moved out of town and every time I drive by his house the GPS in my Toyota Prius shows me where he lived because I created a navigational system destination address for his place. I really want to remove it. How do I delete a nav point from my GPS?

Dave's Answer:

You raise an interesting problem, actually: a lot of GPS systems make it easy to remember an address or make it a "waypoint", complete with a custom icon or even a phone number or similar, but then make it quite difficult to actually delete that same waypoint when you don't want it on your list or - as in your case - if you don't want to see it every time you're in that specific area. Maybe GPS designers never actually delete waypoints so they don't think about it?

The Toyota navigational system is one of the many in this regard, and while you can add waypoints with the interface on the screen, to delete a waypoint you need to actually use the buttons on the dashboard adjacent to the screen. Why? Um, just because.

So rather than try to understand, let's just see how it's done, okay?

My friend Tom recently moved and when I drove past his old place, my Toyota GPS system dutifully showed his apartment. Not good. The path to deleting it starts by pressing the "MENU" button below the screen:

toyota gps nav system delete waypoint 1

The rest of the steps take place on the screen, fortunately, and the first step is to tap on the "My Places" icon:

toyota gps nav system delete waypoint 2

You can now see that Toyota calls waypoints "Memory Points", and that one of the options is "Delete".

That "Delete" button sounds like a good option, let's tap on it...

toyota gps nav system delete waypoint 4

Now just scroll up or down to find the memory point you want to delete and tap on it:

toyota gps nav system delete waypoint 5

You can see that you still have a chance to change your mind and leave the memory point intact, but I know, your friend's moved and you want to get rid of the point. So tap on "Yes" and... you're done! Memory point deleted!
