I like a lot of the changes in iOS8 on my new iPhone 6, but I’ve heard that the photos I delete aren’t actually deleted. That’s dumb. How do I find my “deleted” photos and actually remove them from the phone?
One of the truisms of the modern Internet is that nothing’s ever really deleted. Once it shows up online, it’s there, somewhere, backed up or in cloud storage, forever. And now that’s even true on your mobile devices, whether it’s an iPad or iPhone running iOS 8. Most people have realized that the transition from iOS 7 to iOS 8 made the “Camera Roll” vanish, making it a bit harder to find all your most recent photos and videos, but the bigger change is that now deleting a photo or video simply moves it into a new folder called “Deleted”.
This is a hassle if you’re trying to manage your content and a downright problem if you have pics that you need to really delete because of their content. You think you’ve done that and you haven’t. Not so good.
So let me show you how to really delete those “deleted” images from your iPhone 6 (or any other iPhone, of course).
Start in Photos. It’ll look like this:
What you need to do is swipe down to find the “Recently Deleted” album:
Tap to go into the Recently Deleted folder.
You’ll see all those photos and videos that you thought you’d deleted…
From this point you can select a specific image and delete it for real…
Note you can also “Recover” the image by tapping on the lower right (which is why this feature exists) but more likely you want to really delete the photo that you’ve already indicated once you want to delete.
Tap on “Delete” on the lower left.
Well, duh, yeah, delete the darn photo already.
Tap on “Delete Photo”.
Doing this one at a time too tedious? No worries, you can select a set of photos and delete them en masse too:
Now when you tap on “Delete” it’ll let you axe ’em all at once:
So that’s the trick. Just occasionally pop into the Recently Deleted folder and you can get rid of the photos that, well, you’ve already tried to delete once.
Now, does anyone find this feature useful?
THERE REALLYIS NO WAY TO COMPLETELY DELETE PICTURES, EMAILS, TIMING, ANYTHING YOU DO. THERE’S ALWAYS EVIDENCE OF WHAT YOU DO. SOMEONE SOMEWHERE CAN SEE YOU. YOU DON’T KNOW OR SEE THEM, BUT THEY DO OU AND WHO DO THEY KNOW? TRACY
