Prince of Persia Walkthrough III: Defeating the Alchemist

prince of persia logo.jpgThis is part three of a complete walkthrough of all boss battles in Ubisoft's Prince of Persia. The walkthrough was created while playing Prince of Persia on the Playstation 3, but will translate fine to the Xbox 360 version as well.

Again, keep in mind when playing through yourself that the number of times you've fought a boss will determine on how tough each boss battle will be, so the locations do not really matter much.

This is the third of a series of Prince of Persia walkthroughs we'll be publishing here on Ask Dave Taylor, all written by gamer Alex Juel. Here are links to the entire series: Prince of Persia walkthrough: Beating Elika's Father, Prince of Persia walkthru: Defeating the Hunter, Prince of Persia walkthru: Defeating the Alchemist, Prince of Persia walkthru: Defeating the Concubine, Prince of Persia walkthru: Defeating the Warrior, and Prince of Persia walkthru: Defeating Ahriman.

Dave's Answer:

The Cauldron at The Vale

The Alchemist can put up quite a fight. He has the powers to control the Corruption and when he uses it, it's hard to get a hit on him.

In the first battle against the Alchemist, you can beat him very easily if you can get him close to the ledge to knock him off. There are several ways you can do this.

Back up as far as you can to the ledge and when he gets close, use the Acrobatic button to jump over him. Attack him with your sword and when he's close enough, you'll get into a struggle. Win the struggle and you'll push him over.

Another way to do this is to get as close to the edge as you can and let him attack you. If you're close enough to the edge, you'll get into a struggle and when you get out of it, you'll end up on the other side of him. Attack him with Elika's magic or your sword and you should be able to knock him in after another struggle.

Prince of Persia: The Alchemist at the Cauldron

This battle shouldn't take any longer than a minute if you do it right. This first fight is really easy.

Battle at Machinery Ground

The Alchemist gets a little tougher here than the first fight, but not by much.

The platform that you fight The Alchemist on is surrounded by Corruption, so you won't be able to knock him off.

I would recommend starting a combo off with Elika's magic, unless he's in a changed state, and then use a sword attack, Elika's magic, acrobatic move and guantlet.

For Xbox 360: Y, X, Y, A, B
For PS3: Triangle, Square, Triangle, X, O

Another good combo to use here is to start with an acrobatic move, then sword, Elika's magic, and sword.

For Xbox: A, X, Y, X
For PS3: X, Square, Triangle, Square

The Alchemist also has a variety of special attacks that he'll use against you. If you want to memorize which buttons you should press for each grab, here's the list.

When the Alchemist:

Grabs you by your throat - Use Gauntlet
Flies up into the air - Use Acrobatic Move
Shoots out Corruption to grab you - Use Elika's Magic
Comes towards you with outstretched arms - Use Sword Attack

Prince of Persia: Alchemist at the Machinery Ground

Once you get his blood down far enough, the fight will be over and he'll inject you with Corruption. Now find the fertile ground to save yourself.

Battle at the Construction Yard

Here's another really simple battle.

As soon as you can, back up to the ledge of the platform you're fighting on. Let The Alchemist get as close as he can and let him attack you.

You'll get into a power struggle and you'll have to break free. Once you do, you'll jump to other side of him, leaving him close to the edge and vulnerable to attack.

Hit him with Elika's magic, a sword strike, and Elika's magic again if necessary and he should go over after one more power struggle.

Battle at the Reservoir

This battle is a lot tougher than the rest, but there are definitely some tricks to making it much easier.

I would recommend using the combo; Elika's magic, gauntlet, Elikas magic, sword attack, Elika's magic, acrobatic move, then guantlet. This will do a ton of damage.

For Xbox 360: Y, B, Y, X, Y, A, B
For PS3: Triangle, O, Triangle, Square, Triangle, X, O

You can start a combo using Elika's magic everytime he's about to change state and when he's using his powers to regain his health. He does both often during this fight so you have many opportunities to strike.

If you get too close to the Corruption, try to use an acrobatic move to jump over the Alchemist before you get sucked in.

The Alchemist at the Reservoir

If you do happen to fall into the corruption, The Alchemist will get a large portion of his life back so avoid it if you can.

Battle at Heaven's Stair

Another really easy battle here.

The entrance to the platform that you are now on is still open and is the perfect place to drop off The Alchemist.

You start the battle with your back towards the open ledge so the quickest way to beat The Alchemist is to just back all up to the ledge and let him attack you.

Beat him in the power struggle and you'll jump to the other side of him and then you should immediately use Elika to start a combo.

Using Elika's magic, sword attack, Elika's magic, and an acrobatic move should do the trick.

You'll get into another power struggle and if you beat him, the Prince will knock him off the ledge.

Final Battle at The Observatory

The final battle between the Prince and The Alchemist is going to be a bit tougher, but with the right combos, it shouldn't be too hard.

You'll have to find the right spots to start combos and The Alchemist gives you lots of openings.

If you can get a sword strike in somewhere, hit him with Elika's magic right away. You can also deflect one of his attacks for a good opening.

One of the easiest ways to start a combo is to wait until The Alchemist tries to regain his health. Since he does this often, you can continously give him a beating.

The combo I recommend during this fight is Elika's magic, gauntlet attack, Elika's magic, sword strike, Elika's magic, gauntlet, and acrobatic move.

For Xbox 360: Y, B, Y, X, Y, B, A
For PS3: Triangle, O, Triangle, Square, Triangle, O, X

Be careful of the edges of this platform because The Alchemist will surround it with Corruption at random times. Try to stay near the middle of the arena to avoid getting caught in it.

The Alchemist at the Observatory

When you get The Alchemist down to lower than half of his life, he'll disappear. Take the power plates up until you meet him again.

Now you're on an even smaller platform surrounded by Corruption. There isn't much room here to do large combos so do what you can. You can still use the same combo I've previously mentioned even though you won't be able to do all of it.

He doesn't have much blood left, so a couple of combos and he'll be done.
