My Facebook group is "scheduled to be archived"??

I created a Facebook group rather a while ago and just checked on it just to be notified that it's scheduled to be archived? What the heck? Is that from my friends and I not using it enough? What can I do so the group doesn't vanish?

Dave's Answer:

If you actually read the entire message from Facebook, you'll see that there's an option of "upgrading" your group into the new modern Facebook group format with no harm done. Really, it's all tied to Facebook constantly fiddling with the form and format of everything: the older group format is one that they're just phasing out, and that ends up looking like them basically killing old groups that no-one ever checks.

Since you did check it, you're in luck. instead of it vanishing into the Facebook archive ether, you have the surprisingly easy option of upgrading your Facebook group, as I'll show you in this article.

As with you, I also have a group from a long time ago and was surprised when I checked on it recently to find the same "This group is scheduled to be archived" message.

In fact, here's what I saw:

facebook group scheduled archived 1

Concerning to be sure, and I also had the initial reaction "uh oh, we need to use this group more!" but then took a deep breath -- always good in a tech support emergency! -- and read a bit closer.

Even better, click on their helpful link "Learn More" and you'll find...

facebook group scheduled archived 2

Okay, that doesn't sound too scary after all. Back up and click on "Upgrade This Group"...

facebook group scheduled archived 3

Now it's button-pushing madness for the win! Click on "Upgrade" and after an astonishingly short amount of time you'll see:

facebook group scheduled archived 4

Well, that' was easy. Click on "Okay" and you'll see your group in its new layout:

Just for completeness sake, click on "Edit Settings", though you'll be surprised at what it shows you, I bet:

facebook group scheduled archived 6

That's right, you can adjust your notification settings, etc, but there's not really much at all you can do to adjust what's actually on the page.

Oh, and the update shows up as a Notification for you too:

I believe all group members see this update (along with an email notification) but either way, it's all done, mission accomplished.

See, not too bad after all!

Hi Dave,

Would you mind giving an updated adsense earnings post for us for this site :). Could u be kind enough to tell CTR for the 728 header add unit... does having a logo helps to get slightly better CTR??

I ask this because I have a tech blog (low traffic =800 - 1000 uniques daily) but adsense CTR is crazily low = 0.2%... but one of my friends have a site which is in the same niche... yet he has a CTR of 2+%... a little help please?

What should I do if the "upgrade this group"-option doesn't show on the group page? Will the group disappear? How can I upgrade the group if this option doesn't show? Will the group disappear? I hope not and I hope there is a solution for this...

Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
