How do I make my MySpace profile public?

How do I make my myspace public? I go to account settings and there is no option of making my myspace public.. what do i do?

Dave's Answer:

I can't tell if you have a teen account, in which case everything I write here might well be incorrect (I don't have an under-18 account to test with, alas), but if you have a regular MySpace account, it should be straightforward for you to make your profile public.

Start out by logging in to your MySpace account and clicking on "HOME" on the top menu bar, if needed, so that you're looking at:

MySpace Home Photo menu

(obviously, you should see your picture here, not mine!)

Click on "Account Settings" and you'll see a pile of different settings you can tweak. The one you want is labeled "Privacy Settings", as you can see here:

MySpace Account Settings

Click on the "- Change Settings -" immediately adjacent to the Privacy Settings and you should see a raft of different options you can fiddle with or modify:

MySpace Account: Privacy Settings

The top section is where you will want to change your preferences to make your profile fully viewable by the MySpace public at large. Select the best option for you, scroll down to the bottom of that page, and click on "Change Settings". That's it. You're done.

Now, while we're talking about MySpace, don't forget that I am always happy to get more MySpace friends, so check out my profile on MySpace and if you need more help, I have lots and lots of MySpace Help here too.

- my friends only
- public
- only users over 18

Actually on mine it says
- anyone under 18 on myspace (instead)
-----------------------------------------
Well, my site myspace.com/sauguspink is not letting anyone in, they get the
" This profile is set to private. This user must add you as a friend to see his/her profile."

How do I solve this so that everyone can access it?

Ah, that's because you' have an "under 18" account, William. I don't have one of those (since I'm not under 18) so I can't really experiment with it, but I believe that MySpace has a virtual wall between the under 18 and the over 18 accounts.

I have a similar problem to the last posted comment. I am thirty years old and my options on my privacy setting choices are as follows...viewer under 18, myspace viewer under 18, and my friends only. I would like to set my page back to public, however I am not able. I came to your info link looking for a way to fix this problem. I certainly would rather not have ANYONE under 18 looking at my profile, but I would like to have my public myspace profile back again. Can you help?

Posted by: alyssa at May 7, 2007 4:05 PM

Alyssa, that's because "18" is a magic age in MySpace: if you're younger you can't get to the adult area, and if you're older, you can't see the under-18 crowd. By trying to change your birthday you're crossing that line, and that's why you can't do that. The best you can do is wait until 1992 + 18 = the current year, or just build an entirely new profile with your proper birth year associated with it.

I have a question that is somewhat tangentially related to the one above. I want my myspace account to come up when my name is googled. To this end, I have made my full name a headline, set my privacy settings to "public," entered my full name for searches, etc. etc, to no avail. I noticed that a couple of friends' accounts come up when they mention their full name on other people's myspace accounts, but that has not worked for me either. I also had a friend "cache" my account on MSN, but the myspace account is still not coming up either under a google or an MSN search. Can you help? Thanks!

Hi there Dave,

I'm having trouble getting MySpace to show my pictures to the public. I've gone into Privacy settings and It's "Public". I also checked my Albums and they are set to "Everyone"

Do you why it would be coming up "You Must Be Logged-In to do That! " when a person clicks on Pics when our profile comes up.

I'm stumped as to why it is doing this and is very frustrating.

tia,

Adam

I changed my profile so i am 22 years old but it still does not say "Public" as one of the buttons
how do i fix this?

I have a private profile. How do I delete my URL from the public facing profile (the generic one that people see when they log onto my MySpace page and I haven't granted them "friend access")?

I know how to delete my URL from my private page :

body table tbody table tbody table tbody table table div strong{display: none;}
body table tbody table tbody table tbody table td div {visibility: hidden}
body table tbody table tbody table tbody table td,
body table tbody table tbody table tbody td {background: transparent;}
.contactTable {background: rgb(102, 153, 204); position: relative; top: 30px;}
.contactTable table {background: rgb(255, 255, 255);}

but I don't know how to delete it from the public page. Any thoughts?

Posted by: Alecia at July 27, 2007 7:34 PM

for those of you who are asking how to change it to public when you signed up with a teen account, its very simple. just change your age to something over 18, save the change, log out, log back in and then the option should be there.

Dave,

I am 37 and all of a sudden my page is not viewable to the public. I have a myspace music profile. Like someone previously mentioned, my profile now states "This profile is set to private. This user must add you as a friend to see his/her profile."
This is really frustrating. I don't even see where I can change the view to public. Also, my page clearly states that I'm 37. Please help.

I just created my profile yesterday. I created another one a few years ago and still maintain it so I have a little myspace knowledge. However, the profile I created yesterday does not come up in searches under display name, name, under schools I've added - anywhere! The profile does exist, I've added a friend, blogged, etc. it just seems like it does not come up on a search. Does it take a while for new profiles to be included in the greater myspace universe or have I done something wrong in my account settings?

I read your information on how to change the default picture, but when I go to edit/change pictures the upload box isn't there, I can't get that screen to change the picture.
